considering he hasn't yet been convicted I think any punishment at this stage of the game is unfair, however if convicted he needs some time in the joint and banned for life in the nfl

A couple of points I would like to make.
1) This is a federal indictment, and the conviction rate on these is upwards of 95%
2)I read the entire indictment. Participants in this "sport" who fought Vick's dogs testified as to his involvement
3)Training apparatus, and dog carcasses were found on his property
4) If *you* were indicted for such a thing, and it became famously public, what do you think your boss would do, assuming he's not a sadist himself?
5) Psychologists and law enforcement officials agree that such acts are indictive of a sadistic tendency that often finds it's way to abuse and murder of humans
6) Vick is still being pad his full salary, although he doesn't have to work. Sweet deal.
7) From a public relations standpoint, the NFL, The Atlanta Falcons, and all fans of football have been harmed by the indictment.
8) this isn't his first public screw up. Think of the Ron Mexico flap which got buried in money. Think of the Weed in the bottle.
If paying him not to play is too much punishment at this stage, then I hope my boss chooses to do the same to me. I could use the vacation.
When he does get convicted (and I'm 95% sure he will be) he should go to jail. The days of celebrities thumbing their noses at the law is over.

What punishment? He is getting paid millions to do nothing right now.....I tell you what I will take that punishment.
He was involved in a sadistic and illegal activity not only involved but it is obvious he sponsored it with his money and home. That is unacceptable for someone in the postion he is in. He is a thug just as his brother was and you know what really he is a pretty sucky quarterback too ....he won't be missed lets just move on

Abusers of children, elderly people AND animals, are nothing but scum, in my book. I can guarantee you that many feel like I do and that idiot will never play again. If he does, he will cost his team a ton of money. He's no role model, he's a horrid person.
No punishment is enough for what he did, and I'm adamant about that. I rescue animals that have been dumped and abused. It's not a pretty sight.
To the person below me, the outcome will be that he NEVER plays anywhere professionally again. I'll be one who will protest in person. He's SCUM.

He is innocent until proven guilty. If guilty, enforce the applicable laws. If not (just association with idiots taking advantage of the situation), then unfortunately, many people will still pronounce him guilty in their eyes.
No matter - athletes, actors, and politicians are coddled way too much in our society (IMHO). None of them are idols to me.

HEY!, just cause this waste of human flesh plays ball doesnt make him a saint! He attended and was a major player in a illegal and very violent "sport" where two dogs chew on each other and try to kill the other. if one loses and isnt dead from the injuries they kill the loser dog by torturing it! but hey thats no biggie right? just torturing animals? man I wish you were one of those losing dogs! u would cry like the simple b itch you are!

People are going overboard. If he beat up some stripper and was involved in a shooting, people wouldn't be acting outraged like this. (see Pacman Jones)
But he made the mistake of harming an ANIMAL instead. (the ultimate liberal crime).

Laws should echo our morals. It is morally wrong to abuse a child in your care. I think it is the same with animals. It is our job to take care of them, not abuse them.

Looking at your "Details" comments, I can see why you would be willing to write off Vick's behavior.
