Okay, we have established that the SP gets a budget from Whitehall to spend as it sees fit.
Free NHS prescriptions, elderly care and University fees are very expensive, so what in reality are the Scottish people "losing out on" to pay for the above?

No bigoted responses please, posted in good spirit.

The Scots are loosing out on little or nothing.. they get a substantial amount extra per head based on the Barnett formula of the 70's. some of that is designed to correct an imbalance in employment.

In fact they are doing exceptionally well as budgets in England (and some in Wales) are being pillaged to pay for Londons Olympics.

Of curse it helps that many of the cabinet are represent Scots constituencies, so by banjaxing English programs they dont actually harm their own re-election prospects... I'm thinking particularly of the transport schemes to extend or build trams/ light rail schemes which are virtually scrapped in England, as opposed to the scheme going ahead in Edinburgh....

The entire population of Scotland is just 5 million, approximately the same as London. Out of all these people, only a 163,000 are net tax payers. That means 4,837,000 are dependant on the tax payers. Those tax payers are English.
Without England, Scotland is bankrupt, which is why the union came about in the first place.
We now have a situation of a Scottish Prime Minister (again!) a Scottish Chancellor (again) sending English taxpayers money north of the border. The Scottish hate the idea that they should become independant because how would they survive?.
I can see it happening though, because the English are getting fed up with being denied their existence. No box to tick on the census form for English. Scottish, yes, Welsh, yes, Irish yes, but no English.
They are also getting fed up bankrolling an ungrateful Scotland.
This Government want to split England up into regions because we can outvote all the other regions put together.
When the UK breaks up, the English will be able to have free prescriptions, free tuition fees, free care for the elderly, and why not?, we pay for it after all!.

The answer is not about losing out, but how things are allocated. This allows local issues to be focused rather than the Westminsters broad brush. The reason for the parliament was is enfranchise the population.

We lose out on things like market driven economics that run most of England. We lose out on the extra costs for the Anthill that the SE is turning into.

Best of all we lose out on the extra billions that London will get for the Olympic Games.
