Last year the media were saying that droughts will be every year, and this year they are saying we are all going to drown. Couldn't give a toss what they think, as they are always negative, and think nothing of lying just for a decent story

I live about 30 miles from Milton Keynes and as that's supposedly the furthest place in any direction from the ocean and the last place to flood due to rising sea levels I'm not that concerned. The only floods that would cause this area problems would be from be rain and burst rivers. However I did see river surfing on the extreme sport channel the other day so if the local canal or river does get a bit wild I will be trying that for sure! As for London, if it does flood out like New Orleans think about the problems it'd solve, less cars, less homeless, less pollution, less politicians, they'll all be washed away. You gotta look on the brighter side of every situation. And when the sea levels do rise it'll mean I won't have to drive so far to the coast. Sounds selfish but it's true.

Yep, good ole Channel Five. Still churning out unscientific scare mongering bollocks.
London, unlike New Orleans, is not found mostly behind levees holding back a big river. Breaking a wall next to the Thames won't innundate the entire city. It'll get a few people a bit damp, but flood the city? No chance. More to the point, it won't run in to any part and then stay there for months afterwards like New Orleans.
And hey, it's only London. If it gets wet most of the rest of the country that've been dealing with it for weeks would find it quite amusing if it happened to Cockneys.

Surely only a complete moron wouldn't be concerned about the UK weather. It's not been so good for a while, and this year the main worry for me is about crops, because fresh food prices will rise and if the ground remains so wet the farmers won't be able to sow next year's crops, which they start doing in September. So of course we need to have worries about that. Plus we've experienced great heat, great winds, great rainfall, and it's clear our gov and our homes aren't properly prepared to cope with much more, so that's a worry too, and the best we can do is imagine the worse and make sure we prepare for it ourselves... just in case.

not worried, but anxious to know how the goverment is going to learn lessons and react to the future. it always takes something huge and people to die before the british goverment do things.
it will get worse, especially with the rising of the sea, itll prob be the tide that effects london. so the enviromental agency needs as much money as it needs, annd the drainage, and flood defences need to be reviewed and new ideas put in place immediately.there still thinking about building homes on low-land, are they really that stupid, may as well just chuck a child of a boat.
the world needs sorting.

How much human tampering can mess up this planet's weather has yet to be seen...there's simply no question that if you alter (and trash) the planet like humans have been--and continue populating like we have--that the planet is and will be impacted.
This earth is not evolving, it's getting worse from human mismanagement of it--in some places a lot more than others.
Believe me, messing up the weather seriously is very very frightening.
But this planet has been through some really wild stuff before and balanced itself out in some areas...but at what price--and at how much loss of life in the process?

I think it's related to the weather in New orleans. I really think this is the global warming they've been banging on about for years starting to rear it ugly head. I think it started with that Tsunami at Boxing day a few years back. The weather has been weird since then.
Walk to work, shut down your computer when you aren't using it, turn off all lights you don't use, don't leave your telly on standby, etc...

yeah well if it does happen its predicted that where i live on the outskirts of london will flood so for all u people who dont give a stuff think again, me and others could lose our homes whilst you're all at home comfy and warm. God why aren't we being offered protection from the floods, or is our town to small to worry about, only another 10,000 people to lose their homes. Its not fair!

No - Que Sera Sera as Doris Day sang! I too live in the NW and only 50 metres from a river. Please though don't be so smug about not being affected by flooding. No matter where it happens in the UK it affects us all. Think of the current flooding which will affect the price of food, increased taxation to build new flood defences, reduce national income by loss of earnings and holiday makers, tourists etc etc etc etc

And so I'm only slightly worried. I think we are paying the price for a lovely summer in 2006.
