It's all about where you live. In my area in Michigan, you can get a nice brick home for about 150,000. Just 40 miles away the same house will cost you about 250,000.
You also need to look at taxes, too. All counties in Michigan have different tax rates and it's also different in other states. For ex: I pay about 850 per year for all my taxes, my bf's dad pays about 2 grand.
It's still better to buy your own house than to pay rent and buy someone else a house!

In my area of Michigan, near Lake Huron and 25 minutes from all the ports, the houses start at 32,000.00 and go from there to three mill. Depends on what you want to spend, Lot's of housing.
