a friend asked me how high the possibilities of getting pregnant are when you have unprotected sex the day after your period ends. i couldn't give her any answer as I'm still in my first year of med school and we haven't tackled sex thoroughly yet. can anyone help me give her some answer?

ANY time that you have unprotected sex there is a risk of pregnancy.
e.g. period lasts 7 days
intercourse day 8
sperm live 3days now day 11
If she ovulates now -she may have a short cycle 25 days- result-- pregnancy- Not all women(in fact the minority ) have text book 28 regular cycle
there are too many variables- so tell your "friend" to be careful

Almost zero for first 8 days from the onset of the period.

Very unlikely, unless she has a VERY short cycle. You usually ovulate 15,16, or 17 days before your next period. That's when you can get pregnant. If she's not using a condom, she better be darn sure she and her partner have no STDs, and they are totally exclusive. :)

Well a very difficult and tricky question to answer. In 90% of cases it will be no. But then still a chance is always there.

after two days of mansturation ends sex is not safe- one can get pregnant in these days if contraceptives not used. so be careful
