joe montana,rings,m.v.p., and the way he made his team better, now everyone says he had one of the greatest teams ever, true, but not in 81, actually a subpar team than, and he took 3 different teams to victory in the superbowl( i mean 3 different 49ers teams) and if i recall correctly he destroyed elway in the superbowl and beat marino, as far as favre goes sorry but no, the quarterback is the general and the thinker on the team, and no one ever has come close to playing the position as well as cool joe montana.. manning may be a close second by the end of his career..

This is a really subjective question based on a person personal preferences of a style of play.

Technical by the numbers football would clearly put the mantle on Peyton Manning or Joe Montana.

Finding a way to win against all odds and do something amazing would be John Elway or Brett Favre or Fran Tarkenton

It's all about preference. You would probably even get an argument for Johnny Unitas thrown in there.

Michael Vick, lol. Actually a lot can be said about Brett Favre, most impressively his consecutive games played streak. Likewise, for Peyton Manning, the one knock is his youth. In my opinion he will be the greatest quarterback of all time if his numbers continue through his normal projected retirement (say in 6-10 years). But I believe the best quarterback of all time is another Colt: Johnny Unitas. The Super Bowl ring and the records. Plus his statistics are based on the 14 game schedule.

"Slingin'" Sammy Baugh. Before him the QB was a running back that threw sometimes. Like LT in a halfback option. He (and Sid Luckman) changed the game.

And he played a good safety too.:)
"When Baugh first started with the Redskins pro football was largely a grind-it-out ground game. The forward pass was something to be used with caution, and never inside your 30-yard line, except in desperate situations. By the time Baugh was through, the forward pass was a primary offensive weapon"

Any answer besides him or Sid Luckman is wrong.

Depends on how you classify them.

The best - Dan Marino

Winner - Elway, Brady, Montana, Bradshaw, Aikman, Young

Iron Man - Favre...also great stats, Champion and MVP

The best are: Brady, Montana, Unitas, Staubach, Manning, Marino, Elway, Moon, Favre, Aikman, Steve Young, Namath, Jim Kelly, Fouts and of course Fran Tarkenton

Anybody ever hear of a guy named brady "Manning he's got the ring now" Brady has three rings last time I checked he got 2 of them with Antoin Smith at running back and a wide reciever corps that most people thought sucked. Oh yeah didn't he also upset the greatest show on turf? I can hear it now "yeah but he had Dieon Branch" or did Dieon Branch have him I don't remember him having that much impact on Seattle last year. Brady truly makes players around him better and is well on his way to a fourth ring this year barring any injuries.

Anyone who thinks Joe Montana isnt the greatest of all time is 22 or younger, guaranteed.

Montana was the NFLs first true thinking mans quarterback. Skip his multiple MVPs, multiple SB rings, etc. Skip the fact that his play was nearly always perfect. Skip the fact that his passes were straight in-line laser beams.

The man played with perfection. End of story.
