Hi sweetie I know how you feel. I hated my job as a kitchen assistant and ended up having nerve problems because the job was so stressful. I was off work for 2 months and in that time I was SO bored! My advice is go down to a job agancy, scan the online job centre for jobs in your area and do not give up on finding something. In the mean time, try doing stuff you enjoy eg writing, reading, shopping. I have started a home study course in journalism and it is keeping my mind occupied constantly! Maybe join a gym or do an evening course at college to learn something you enjoy?
Please don't give up, life is so short, do whatever you can to keep your life interesting. Good luck! X

Look, you are doing all that is humanely possible to do at this moment. YOu dont sit on your *** waiting for the dole, you actually took a job that is to say the least unfulfilling and you are looking for better alternative. That is something to be proud of for starters.
To make your life a bit more bearable, try to reward yourself for every day you have to live like this, just little things - have your nails done, get yourself a really expensive icecream at the end of the working hours, or just get in touch with somebody you have been planning to for a long time, only never had the time to arrange it.
And dont worry, things will change for the better!

PS: when really low, I always try to imagine a situation that would be even worse than the one I am in. It always works in making me feel glad for the scrap I am in.

Use your time to make plans for a brighter future. Can you sneak a book in and read instead of staring into space? If not, then make plans in your head for
a, the evening
b, the weekend
c, your next holiday
d, to further your education
e, think of someone to help and how to do it
f, structure a story in your head as if you were going to write a book
Good luck with the job hunt.

OK. First of all think of 4 good things in your life that make you happy (nice boyfriend, going out on payday, holiday booked etc.....). Then think of 4 good/useful things you achieved yesterday (got up on time, rang mum, paid electricity bill etc). Then think of 4 lots of people in the world who are suffering (starving in Africa, flood victims in UK etc.....).

Do that every time you feel sorry for yourself and you'll find that things don't seem so bad. Also, use this experience as an opportunity to move forward - from now on you'll have sympathy and understanding of other people who have shitty jobs and you'll know to find something more useful and rewarding for yourself.

Be creative.
Imagine you are a character in a play who leads a double life, then imagine scenarios that are interesting or funny, make a note of them during the day and by the time you leave you could have a script for a play or be half way through a novel.

And asking this question on here is helping you to get another job ..... how?

Get off your backside and go look for one.

i.e. get up gather your belongings together, walk next door (or whereever your boss is sat) tell him/her your going out and won't be coming back and to send your severance pay to your house and then spend the rest of the day writing letters and filling in job applications for stuff that sounds like it may interest you. Don't stop until you've got at least 6 interviews lined up and then you can choose which one appeals to you most.

No point in moaning if you're not prepared to act.

Sorry about that Kirsty. Just take some time out and think of something positive about your job - you'll find something that was lacking in your previous job.
Hang in there; most of us are just passing time till we work for ourselves.

If you can only talk to yourself, at least that means you talk to an intelligent person, a good conversationalist.

There is someone who can do amazing things, look in the mirror and see what he created.
