I have an old Gateway Solo 2550 (Intel PIII) with originaly Windows 98 installed plus a working cd drive, working floppy drive, and working pc card lan. There is a 6 gig harddrive that SMART says is failing. I got rid of the battery because it couldn't hold a charge. There is no cpu fan because it fried and it has a keyboard where some keys are missing and some don't work. It has 64 megs of memory and its wonder I once had Windows XP installed on it but that was before I reformated in an attemp to fix the failing harddrive. Anything wireless is not much of an option because I dont have wi-fi or any wireless network. I know that its a piece of crap and ANY help for it is a stretch but I got hope for it and I know there is somewhere I can put it. I would appreciate any ideas. So can anyone help me-Thanx

Hello
If you going to repair it then it will cost you more, and even after repairing technology will remains old (P-III). In my opinion try some exchange offers which take old laptops and have some price deduction in new laptop purchase.

It is always better to go towards new technology rather repairing old.

You can send it to me if you like . . . or you can contact your local Salvation Army or Good Will to donate it. I wouldn't donate something like that which is on the verge of breaking down, but it might give someone some enjoyment for a while. Maybe some kids you know can play with it for a while. Just remember to delete your stash off that failing hard drive . . . . Good luck!

See if someone has something similar on ebay with a different problem - say a cracked screen so that you can fix yours. It's not viable without a CPU fan.

Donate to a school or charity (tax write-off), give it to a grandparent that doesn't have a computer, or use it for when you travel.

Sell it on e-bay, donate/give it away, fix it, or throw it away. Those are your options.
