This is a subject that means a lot to me. My sister has a afro Caribbean partner and they are very much in love and recently just had a gorgeous little boy ( love him to bits and that's why I get defensive about racism). When they first started dating it was awful, we would all go out for a meal and the stares we would get...I never understand why people had such a problem with inter-racial relationships. I would find both races would stare but more sneeres from white ignorant people. I have noticed too since my nephew has been born we get some looks in the pram, but I just say to my sister it's coz he's gorgeous. I remember you saying your partner was black Saturn? Are you going to pop the question then : ) I don't think it matters what colour you are as long as you love the other person that is all that matters, any one Else's views can take a running jump!!

Shouldn't be a problem but there are some out there who are very bigoted that's where the problems come from. For instance if you are a mixed race couple don't go to the deep south in the states racism/ bigotry there is rife seen it first hand and was disgusted.
If two people want to be together its nothing to do with anyone else and certainly nothing to do with the colour of your skin never understood why its such a big thing for the bigots, sad little people that they are

I think the problem lies in a culture clash, rather than an inter-race relationship.
If there was no culture, colour alone would never be a bar.
I am always interested in seeing those middle aged English women who marry African men, and sooner or later land up in the papers. The problems lie in what people's expectations are, with many of the men expecting the wife to support them and the Western woman being outraged at being treated as a commodity.

Hi there Saturn! Nice question!
Methinks inter-racial relationships/marriages are good.
Its what the world needs today!
Such families are rich in culture & tradition. However, unique problems do arise, but then...true love does conquer all!
Btw, my cousin has portuguese, indian (as in India) and a smattering of british blood as well. She married an Arab. Her child married an Irish-American. Their children are adorable & they have a great family life!

There are issues which require more attention and working upon than in a conventional marriage. After a time and as children begin to grow, the social aspects become predominant and decisive. It would be advisable to discuss all such issues before hand to minimize their impact at a later stage. The common belief that LOVE can weather all ups and downs is not always true and practically workable.

Ours is a mixed-religion marriage. Caused some family problems at first and we sneaked off to a Register Office to get married - that was 48 years ago.
Our daughter, raised without any formal religious education but taught as much as we could about all the major Religions, decided to convert to her father's family's religion about 12 years ago and is bringing up her children in her chosen way of life.

i think if cultures rand religion don't clash then its all good.
like all relationships it helps if families get on, ya know maybe a main family figure might not approve and cause a stink.
if you can get over that or this doesn't happen then its its time to party.
other then these points, we are all sit under the same sun, if you love each other and plan your life together then im sure you will be very happy.
she will be a very lucky Mrs Saturnfive. x

I think cultural differences can cause difficulties, especially when other family members get involved! But couldn't the world learn a lot from watching two people from different religions, backgrounds, races in a harmonious marriage!

I dont think what goes on in someone elses relationship is anybody elses business. As long as two people love each other and want to be together why should we even care what colour their skin is, what religion they are or whether they are both of the same sex

I'm in an inter-racial marriage. It's no problem at all. Our being from different cultures is more of a challenge.
