i wanted to know how bad customs and imigration was in Manila. The lines, the people, etc... Wondering if i mite have any problems. I'll be coming from Bangkok and i' an American. Probably arriving in Manila early in the morning. How does it compare with Thailand or the U.S. Any Horror stories?

Believe it or not but a lot actually depends on what airline you are using.
PAL uses its own terminal therefore you don't have all the passengers from other carriers to contend with.
A rough breakdown would be:
Immigration 30 minutes
Baggage 15 minutes
Customs 20 minutes
Use any other carrier and I would roughly estimate a time frame of at least double of that above.
Good luck

the philippines is the only country in the world wherein the bureau of customs put too much attention on balikbayan boxes wherein other countries would turn a blind eye as not in commercial quantities. they tend to let products slip thru major seaports for some consideration.**

We went a month ago, but we're balikbayan so i they probably treat us differently. But customs was nothing. It took no more than 2 minutes. They just asked if we brought certain things, and we answered truthfully, and voila! you're gone. Only thing was, the customs guy aked if we could give him some of our pasalubong[gift/souvineers] to bring home to his family. That pissed my parents off.

Customs and Immigration at the airport are not bad as you expected, we are just implementing a strict and tight Anti-Terrorism law.
Those things are not only good for Filipino people, but also for you and other foreigners who enters the country.

They always waved me in to go by. Just hand them the Custom Declaration paper. I always have little goodies in my luggage that I take out prior to approaching them. So I hand them some of the stuff, hand lotion, chocolate etc... in good faith and they love it.
Yes , just be honest and never lie if they were to ask you anything.
