I've been seeing what looks like a star in the sky over the last week or so, except that sometimes it looks red. Could this be Mars? (it's not any sort of aircraft because it doesn't move.......)

You need software to find the planets on any location, date and time.

Here is a good one:

My computer with software is in the shop, sorry I can not answer for this now.

Yes, but only early in the morning. If you tell us the time and direction we can probably tell you what you're seeing, but with 4000 objects (stars and planets) visible to the naked eye on a given night, you need to be more specific. The brightest obsjects in the evening sky at present are the planet Venus (low in the west just after sunset) and the planet Jupiter (low in the south most of the night).

Mars rose tonight about 1 am and is just to the right of the Pleiades. The bright star Arcturus is also reddish; you can find it by following the arc of the Big Dipper's handle.

Well, it might be hard to see because of snow storms.
