Since Bonds IS playing baseball and IS (sometimes) hitting home runs, I don't see where this question -- golly gee, lookit that, hoo'da thunk we'd ever see YABQ? -- is going, unless it's into the usual "i hate bonds so im gonna aks a qestion about him so pepole can b mean 2 him" agenda toilet.
Flush.
2pts for YABQ.

You guys should really watch TV more often, especially ESPN. They just had a show on about Barry Bond's and his upcoming record breaking feat yesterday and two TOP NOTCH reporters, who were guests on the show, both agreed that:
A. NOTHING has been PROVEN that Barry is/was/has taken steroids and therefore has every right to continue playing baseball
B. Even if he is found guilty, his ACCOMPLISHMENTS BEFORE this whole 'juice' issue came up would have put him into the HALL OF FAME AUTOMATICALLY!
(3-Time MVP, Broke the 30 Homeruns/30 Stolen Bases in same year 4 TIMES, had over 330 homeruns w/in his first 10 years, as well as over 990 RBI's, 380 stolen bases and a career batting average of .316!)
Now, for those who claim that his record should have an 'asterisk' next to it, consider the records of some 'pitchers', which are still standing, who were known to SCUFF THE BALL..which is CHEATING in-itself, yet there are NO ASTERIKS next to their names...So, why the 'double-standard?'
And if you feel this is the 'steroid era', then forget ever seeing YOUR FAVORITE baseball player in the Hall of Fame...Because it's assumed that since the beginning of this 'era', over 40% of players are or were taking illegal substance. And since there's no real way to police it and not everyone is getting caught, then no-one from this 'era' should be considered for the Hall...Right? Because then there would need to be an 'asterisk' next to their names as well...So, don't try and 'have your cake' and 'eat it too' please!

Well, unfortunately, there's only a guilt in the court of public opinion. He's never been convicted of anything.
However, if there is any evidence and a conviction of using steroids, record or not, they'll erase all home runs from when it was reported and verified that he started using them, thus returning the home run record to Hank Aaron, and sending a resounding message that the use of performance enhancing drugs in the world of professional sports will not be tolerated and will mean that all your career stats from the point of useage would be erased, so pretty much it was like you were working for free (no pay = no stats), and then you blacklist the player, ban them for life, and that'll kill hall-of fame inductions and legend status. Maybe then people would get the hint.

I hate Barry. But if you look at his stats from a fantasy perspective, he only had one year that was a little out of the ordinary and even then his BA was lower than previous years which means he may have been swinging for the fence. But you still have to hit the ball to hit HR's. These days if a player hits 40 hr's in a season we all yawn. Now we are saying that he did it because of steroids - is everyone on steroids now?
I think he did it. I think everyone else did, including the pitchers he faced. But until everyone else steps up and admits it we will never know - I think everyone was on equal ground either way. Babe Ruth hit his on hot dogs and beer - but those are legal. Let the stats stand until A-Rod breaks them.

He gets to keep playing and hit home runs. That's not the whole story though.
Barry is under investigation and someday will be hauled into court. Until that day, we won't know what evidence the feds have uncovered. As we find out, Barry's already lousy reputation will get worse and worse. Who knows... he may even be punished.
I disagree with the previous poster. Punishing one wrong doer won't bring the destruction of major league baseball.

What?
I do think he "should be allowed to played baseball"
Everyone was on steroids, he just took more because of jealosy of mcguire and sammy sosa. If there was a nice guy hall of fame, I would not let "barry bond" in it, he is a first rate asshat.

No, I think that he should be banned from baseball for taking illegal steroids. He does not get to break records if he does it by cheating.

It's still not proved he's taking steroids - it's only allegations.
Anyway, even in the earlier parts of his career, he's been hitting homeruns and what not...
