Okay this is sopposed to happen while Callie (the main character) is going to ride her horse at a barrel race and her horse goes crazy while she's riding because of a drug or something planted by her enemy Jamie

loco weed is neurotoxic I believe and will make horses literally crazy hence loco. To my knowledge treatment and prognosis are limited.

Plus Locoweed is a well put together word. ;)

I've heard that caffeine/chocolate can make horses go nutty as well.

Not too sure about drugs or plants, most ones I know make a horse sick, but fi you are wanting it to go crazy so the rider falls off, then it could have a sharp burr underneath the saddle blanket which will make it rear and buck as soon as it is ridden. Or most horses are deathly afraid of snakes.

What kind of crazy do you want? Crazy while riding or just to go insane while in the paddock/stable?

Jamestown weed - otherwise known as Jimson Weed, or Loco weed - can cause a "wild" reaction - hense the name Loco weed.

Interestingly enough, Jimson Weed is often found in grass hay - which might be a great way for the antagonist to poison the horse - "Here, Share my hay, Calli - I have a fresh bale right here..."

Then an alternate ending could actually be that Jamie didn't really know about the Jimson Weed - or she knew precisely what she was doing and poisoned the horse.
