Ok, I know this is a very touchy subject. I am currently attending college to get my degree in law enforcement. I have to write a paper on the signs someone has been raped, so any help here would be appreciated. Both physical and emotional, I have found a lot of information on this, but the answers I need are for like if your friend was raped and how you can tell, if that makes sense, But any help that you could give me would be great.

Physically she may dress way down and put on weight or loose weight. She might cut her hair off and stop wearing make-up in an attempt to be less attractive as not to encourage this again (like it was her fault). She may even stop showering often. She might withdraw emotionally from things she used to be attached to. She may also pull away from any men in her life. You may or may not notice her unhealthy emotional state of being. She could also go the other direction and start acting out, as if to taunt the opposite sex in an attempt to gain a sense of control of her body again. Get tattoos or peircings out of no where for no reason. She may start drinking or take on a crutch in life she didn't used to have. She may go to extremes you would have never thought she was capable of and think you don't know her anymore. She could just shut down and stop caring about life or talk suicide. She may also become dark and twisted and talk about things that don't seem to make sense. It's hard to put your finger on all of the signs that someone may or may not send. Everyone is so different in these situations. I think it could also depend on the type of attack she experiences, violent or non violent. She will in some way reach out but not everyone will see it. She may start blamming other unrelated events on herself in an attempt to take fault for things that are out of her control.

Unrelated to the question:
If you know or think someone you know has been in this situation it is never her fault period. She did nothing to deserve it or bring it on, ever. If you think she has been assulted but aren't sure, ask in a very gentle non judging way. It may just give her the out she needs to start talking about it and recover. I feel very strongly about this.
