i do both. through mostly library now since harder to afford to buy books. through i really like going to used bookstores can find some great books or hard to find ones most times. the library is nice cause can take out whatever catches your intrest and if don't like it then always can return it .also doesn't cost anything mostly.

I not only use the library, I work in a library. That makes it possible for me to access a lot of reading material and recommend it to others who might read it at least, and might buy it when I can't.
Sometimes you just can't give financial support for an author, but being a reader does help spread the word about their books anyway.

I ask for the library to buy books when something new comes out that I would like to read. They have a budget and if they get a member's idea, they are usually very good about adding the book or even author to their budget.

I rarely buy new books, too. The only books I bought from the bookstore were Harry Potter, Lord of the Rings seires including The Hobbit, Dark Justice by Jack Higgins, 2 books by James Patterson. All the rest of my books (and there loads of them) I get from Booksale. Fortunately for me, most of the authors I like are sold there at cheap prices, like Agatha Christie, Ngaio Marsh, Ruth Rendell, Margaret Truman, Jack Higgins, PD James. I don't go to the library after I finished college and the public libraries here suck!

I work at the library so I almost NEVER buy a book unless I've read it a million times or read it and feel I will benefit from being able to refer to it often.
