stop?
I think the rationale is simple. It is no different from your local neighborhood squabble. One neighbor is slighted because another neighbor stepped on their turf or area. Or that neighbor is imposing a new set of neigborhood rules when clearly other set of rules are working well in the other neighborhood area. We are imposing a Western way of living, because we think we are the best and being so we are the only ones that are right. Or forces other people to do our bidding. Thus, this breeds deep-seated animosity. WE are impinging on their sovereignity, and the American government seems arrogant to say, it's our way or the highway. And we threaten them by saying, "we are the only ones that have superior bombs" In this respect alone, other countries hate us. Why is it only the US is allowed to have and develop bombs? The world is not just America.
If we leave them alone, just like any neighborhood squabble, the animosity will EVENTUALLY die down and diminish.

But then, we want to confront and be confrontational! Because we think we are the only ones that are right, because since WWII we still subscribe to "might is right".
No wonder we are breeding a spawn of peoples who wants to destroy us. History tells us "ROME eventually fell (after 3 centuries), no matter how mighty Rome thinks of itself as invincible". We are now in the 3rd century of United
States of America.

My friend, I agree with you 100%. We have no right meddling in their affairs. We've already taken away the bad guy (whom, by the way, was the guy we supported). Why do we insist on staying longer? At the cost of the lives of our sons, daughters, brothers, sisters, and friends, and our hard earned highly taxed money?

Your rationale is wrong. We have an obligation to help countries develope democratically. People want to be free. They don't want someone telling them, how to worship, how to dress, what to eat, where to live, and how much money they can make. Free enterprise has been the goal of all people. So, when you say we interfere in the politics of countries, you are wrong. The Taliban is bent on creating a Muslim nation all over the middle east. That would be O.K., but it would be an oppressive regime. Would you want to live under their rule? I doubt that because your free thinking would be stifled. The U.S. is the only country in the world to give people an opportunity to speak their mind. I will ask you another question. Why do people strive to come to the United States of America? Why do people risk life and limb to enter the U.S.? Why? Because it is the only land in the world where there is an opportunity to be free and make as much of yourself as you want. So, don't downgrade the U.S.
Also the Taliban and Al Queda is out to kill us and destroy us, so when you say we impose our philosophy on other countries, so what...democracy is the best system among all others and it works. What should we do lay down and die? Or do we fight for our rights to a free society and help others to be free. It is intellectuals like yourself who analyze everything to a point where you miss the point. People want to be free and that will be till the end of time. We are the best and if you don't like it here, move to Afghanistan and live in the mountains with those animals.

There's a lot of mis-information here. For one, where do you think Al Quada comes from, the moon? and what do you think was happening over there before we stepped in? why do you think we were in their air space? don't you remember what Hassan was doing to the tribes in the North, and now the way they're trying to get even. Our way of living had nothing to do with what was going on over there. This was the seat of the rebel, Al Quada, movement. You can't compare them with gangs and tribes, it's much more serious and intense that this.
These people are in a circle of devastation to destroy themselves and bring everyone in it with them. They see anyone that tries to help as a mortal enemy.
I worry about the innocent women and children. My grandson has been over there, one year with the Air Force and now for two years as a civilian worker. He says the people in general love us. They are in abject fear of the Taliban themselves and Al Quada.
They've lived under their rule and suffered and don't want that to happen again. They're worried that when they leave we'll be literally throwing them to the wolves and a rein of terror will exist. I remember all to well Viet Nam and the way they made them suffer for supporting us when we left, I was there, were you? I saw the devastation they brought down on all that helped and, I think Iraq will be a blood bath if we just up and leave.
I don't have an answer: that's the problem. I wish I did. There is so much bloodshed in the world today in the name of peace and God. It has to stop.
By the way, there's 100 years in a Century, Rome last a lot more then 3 (three) Centuries. The ruled and conquered the entire world as we knew it and controlled all countries before they fell to greed.

Your assumption is extremely naive. These people were attacking us long before we went into any country in the Middle East. Do you not remember the hostage situation under Jimmy Carter? Do you not remember the Olympics and the massacre there? What about all the hijackings that have taken place over the years?
If we were to simply leave, these terrorists would do exactly what they have said they would do. They will turn Iraq into a training ground to begin the elimination of Israel and eventually all western civilizations.
I don't know about you, but I really don't care what other countries think about us. If they hate us so bad, then the next disaster or dictator that virtually wipes out their country, they can depend on the rest of the world through the UN for support. Just remember who the greatest giving nation on the earth and in all of history has been. When that stops, don't you think they will hate us even more?

There are really three issues here.
1) the occupation of Iraq and Afghanistan
2) the presence of US troops in other Muslim countries
3) US support of Israel
Withdrawing troops from Iraq should lessen the intensity of the Muslim reaction. Afghanistan as well.
The other countries in which we have troops or naval facilities are another question. Muslims have been upset with US troops in Saudi Arabia for a long time. We are there at the request of the Saudi government (Or the House of Saud, same thing) as well as naval bases in other countires on the gulf. We're not there as occupiers. We're not going to leave, so Muslims are going to have to learn to live with that.
We're not giving up support of Israel as long as Muslim nations continue to call for the destruction of the state of Israel.
So I guess the answer is yes. But at least two of the three issues I cite will not be resolved to the liking of the Muslims.

But 9-11 happened BEFORE any western country went into either Afganistan or Iraq.
You have to remember that back in the 1970s, the Ayatollah declared 'War on the West' and that terrorism has been around for a long time. It didn't just suddenly start because the UK and the US went into Afganistan and Iraq.
And Islamic extremists have carried out suicide bombings in countries like Indonesia and many others. You have to accept, unpalatable though it is, that Islamic terrorists do what they do BECAUSE they are terrorists. Period. The West did not bring it on themselves.

I'm not sure if you can some how disconnect yourself from any part of the world. We will still have some US presence in middle east even if we don't have military there. Oil.
Even bigger problem; our support for Israel angers Arabs in the region too. Even if you pull out all military from Middle East there will be plenty of reasons for groups like al Qaida to wage jihad against the US.
We could take our hands off Middle East altogether, but then we'll have people telling us what a selfish jerk we are for not trying to help negotiate peace in Middle East. May be that can be reasons for attacks.

Well, you make some very good points. However, several Muslims decided to fly planes into buildings and kill people. That was pure hate...nothing else.
So how do you deal with a group of people who hate....just because that is what they are taught. They do not do research, they do not come to the US and visit, they simply learn to hate North Americans because we are breathing.
You are trying to answer the question from a point of view...where you CAN have a point of view. But how do you make a decision about another nation if you are not allowed to even research it? And wha if you HAVE to hate that nation in order to survive? Because that is the reality. If you live in a community that hates the States, and you go against the grain, you are dead. Plain and simple.
So, although I appreciate your thoughts, the issue is a bit more complicated.

With blunders and slip-ups with human errors in shaking and waking up the dead Mummies all risen from the graveyards of failures and horrors of the past eerily wailing in ghostly kitchen's dialect with ghostly and deadly words with two hands stretching out creaking and rattling with skeleton of skull and bones blindly searching the way back to the graveyards.
What do you think?
Ever wonder who will lead them all back so they can all rest in peace.
Look around at the mess running loose and stumbling all over the place world-wide without the walking stick too.
The blunders and slip-ups with human errors in kicking the butts in making a monkey out of the misery of their own little one, own children, own generation and living human kind with idol worshiping the dead Mummy in not worshiping God.

I dont think terrorist attacks would stop, because they are done out of love of extremist religion, not because of the war (although the war doesnt help!). I think that a lot of hatred towards westerners by the innocent victims would die down and maybe gradually we would be forgiven. I am with you I don't see why the US can develop such weapons and then get all angry when another country does. They might argue that the other countries are run by dictators who have evil intentions or something. And yes the western world should stop pushing their beliefs onto other people and respect the cultural differences. It is unfair when ANY innocent person is hurt by this crap and I hate that I can't even go for a holiday without feeling safe!!!
