I still think that's too many games to make up given the starting rotations of the two teams. I like Wang for the Yanks, but after that they have a bunch of 5-6 inning pitchers like Clemens, Pettitte and Mussina, and I still can't believe they are throwing Kei Igawa out there, as he is horrible.
The Bosox have Beckett and Matsuzaka at the top of their rotation, and blowhard Schilling is due back soon, and Wakefield is solid. And besides Rivera in the Yankees pen, the Red Sox pen is much deeper.
I am a Yankee fan, but don't get too jaded by them mopping up the dog butt D-Rays and Royals this past week. Their pitching is still going to have problems against the good hitting teams in the league, including the Red Sox, Tigers, Indians, Jays, etc.
They are about 4 games back of the wild card, so I'd say that's their better chance of making the postseason.

I believe that the yankees will catch boston. they have been playing well. and the whole easy schedule thing the last time red sox played devil rays the red sox lost the series.

no.. the stinkees will never catch the redsox.. the red sox will win 95 games this year.. that combined with the current magic number means the skankees will be eliminated by the time the red sox win win number 89... your team is already done and its not even august 1st yet....good night irene...

Yanks will probably take the wildcard...Catching Sox is possible but a longshot...They need to do it now while the schedule is in their favor.

way to respond loffa what ever you are taking take half.. okay back to the question i believe they could take the division bosox have faltered many times. name the last time boston won the al east. it has been 12 years since they won.
