...although you will probably have heard of many of these '80's films, and some of them might be a little difficult to find, the following list of titles are horror films that have a respectable covert, and in some cases, cult appeal with devoted, die-hard horror fans, did not find mass appeal with general audiences, thus are lesser-known, but would make great additions to your horror collection:

"Phenomena" (aka "Creepers")
"Just Before Dawn"
"The Kindred"
"Dolls"
"The Beast Within"
"Slugs: The Movie"
"Happy Birthday to Me"
"Blood Diner"
"Something Wicked This Way Comes"
"Dawn of the Mummy"
"Silent Night, Deadly Night"
"Madman"
"The Dead Next Door"
"Xtro"
"Fade to Black"
"Hell of the Living Dead" (aka "Night of the Zombies")
"Maniac Cop"
"Evilspeak"
"Street Trash"
"Demons"
"The Nest"
"The Boogey Man"
"House by thre Cemetary"
"From a Whisper to a Scream" (aka "The OffSpring")
"City of the Living Dead" (aka "The Gates of Hell")
"The Stuff"
"Vamp"
"Scarecrows"
"The Prowler"
"The Mutilator" (aka "Fall Break")
"Dead/Alive"
"Pieces"
"The Beyond" (aka "7 Doors of Death")
"Near Dark"
"Rats: Night of Terror"
"Q: The Winged Serpent"
"The Outing" (aka "The Lamp")
"Night of the Demons"
"The Deadly Spawn"
"The Burning"
"Night of the Creeps"
"Sleepaway Camp"
"Henry: Portrait of a Serial Killer"
"From Beyond"
"Anthropophagus" (aka "The Grim Reaper")
"Brain Damage"

....I hope that you find some of these tasty, nasty little tidbits to your liking....these most horror-ific gems from the 1980's!!! (I sorta stuck with the 80's era, 'cause the horror films were a lot more bad***, kick*** fun back then).

SCREAM (1996) directed by Wes Craven, written by Kevin Williamson, and starring Neve Campbell, Drew Barrymore, Courtney Cox, David Arquette, Mathe Lilliard, Skeet Ulrich, Jamie Kennedy, Rose McGowan, etc. is THE GREATEST HORROR movie of all time.

I would only recommend buying individual movies instead entire series collections unless you are seriously dedicated:
1) too expensive
2) basically all the but the origianl suck

Suggestions:
- The Omen (the original 1976 version - b/c the remake sucked!)
- The Exorcist
- Friday the 13th (1980)
- Halloween (1978)
- Ringu (the original Japanese movie that "THE RING" is based on)
- The Innocents (1961)
- Suspiria (1977)
- Evil Dead - Parts I and II (1981 and 1987)
- Invasion of the Body Snatchers (1956)
- Carrie (1976)
- The Shining (1980)
- Rosemary's Baby (1968)
- The Blair Witch Project (1999)
- Hitchcock never liked his films being labeled "horror" movies, but "Psycho", "The Birds", "Dial M for Murder", etc. are great to any collection too

I think the Alfred Hitchcock movie, Psycho (1960) is vital in pretty much any movie collection, and especially in a Horror movie collection. It was pretty much the birth of the slasher genre, and is still a bit scary, even these days, now that we've been so desensitized.

It's score, Anthony Perkin's performance as Norman Bates, it's unconventional (at the time, and somewhat even now) storytelling techniques, all make it a classic.

If you are interested in art of making a remake, you should also get the 1998 Gus Van Sant version of Psycho... not that it's good, many hate it, but... it is literally a shot for shot remake, and would be interesting to see how it was updated (even if poorly) for a more contemporary audience.

I would also sugget some movies that aren't usualy considered horror, but would be well worth looking into. David Lynch's Eraserhead (1977) and Mulholland Drive (2001). Their plots are not at all straightforward, and they're hard to understand, assuming anyone understands them, but they are very suspenseful, and kind of interesting, and would complement more standard entries such as those that you're suggesting, to give your collection a bit of variety.

I would buy them seperate, the cases are so much different on them individually. Also with Friday the 13th if you buy it in the series you'll only get the first 8, because they begin with Friday the 13th . New Line bought Paramount and the 'Jason name' not Friday the 13th. If you notice the last 3 movies have 'Jason' in them. Jason goes to Hell, Jason X, and Freddy vs.Jason. Good Luck I hope it helps. Also I would get The Devil's Rejects, Invasion of the Body Snatchers, & Puppetmasters to name a few
