I have to make a decision: Either persue my dreams as a film-director (very shaky), or, become a boring (but well-paid) finance-guy. Help me make the decision w/ the following info.

So, I'm an aspiring film-director. I believe I have a lot of creative juice in my head to make some amazing films. Do I think I'm the next Speilburg? Not quite...but close(Keep in mind films take time to create- years upon years, and, therefore, this is not a hobby that can be done just on the side)

I also have a degree and masters in finance, and I can take the route of a boring, but well-paid, and very stable business employee. The pros: well, enjoy my money on nights and weekends. The cons? I can never really take off to ever make any movies.

Some of you may suggest to me: "Do what you love!!!" Well, unfortunately, the fact of me struggling w/ finances becomes an big issue. And I'm no fool. I like money, too.

So, I'm stuck with a difficult decision.

All comments, suggestions welcome.

My last answer for the night:
Go with the stable job. You can always do little tid bits and make documantaries in your spare time as a way to let out steam, but being poor is no fun and making films isn't cheap so there's a double whammy there.
Go with the well paying job and find a sweet and amazing mate, have children and make your best films just videotaping their magic.
Good luck whatever you decide. Because my husband had a stable, well paying job, I gave up my passion (my law career) for my marriage and kids and I have not regreted it for one instant.

Try your luck with film making. You'll never know if you can succeed if you don't try. If it dosen't work, you know you have have a safe and reputable career to fall back on. Did you know Mick Jagger is certified as an accountant? His father thought he would never make it as a rock star so he made him get a degree. You never know if you could be the next big hit unless you take a deep breath and take the plunge!

Do the finance bit and take the money and do some directing in your spare time. If you get a break and make it in the directing quit the other job!!

if you want to pursue being a film director i say go for it! yes, its a risky investment, but God will see you through it. the way you describe becoming a finance-guy as boring seems as though you dont really want to do it. why would you want to live miserably? i learned in my sunday school class that if you truly follow God, he will ask you to do risky things that may seem crazy but he will get you through them....i pray you choose what you feel in your heart is the best decision...good luck!

Pursue your dreams! But while you're at it maybe you could make some money on the side by doing some finance-guy work....on the weekends? lol/

I believe everyone faces that problem; it just dpends on your personality. Our heart says: become that artist you always want to be! and our brain says: get a job and you will be stable!

I think we should listen to both: go to college, get a degree, and then pursue your passion! if it doesn't work out, you always have something to fall back on.

If you really think you can make a lot of money via making movies, then go for it.

i believe in being practical. do what is going to guarantee (well, or almost guarantee) you to make good money and to make that money now.

i used to think that I just had to find a job that i adore. nope, not no more. as long as i dont hate the job.....and it is paying me pretty good.....that is all that matters.
