No I don't think a man and a woman in love should need the governments permission to get married. It sounds terrible to me too. It should be a man and a woman who is in love to get married without the governments permission.

It depends on which law you're talking about. If you're talking about a minor not getting married without a parent or guardian's consent, that should remain the same. Under most circumstances, minors are not capable of making the decision to marry, being that it's such a serious and should be lifelong decision. I also agree that a person can only have one spouse. I do not agree with polygamy. Other than those two things, no government should be able to control who does or does not get married. I'm even talking same-sex marriages.

Why is this terrible? The government will almost always allow the marriage to go through, I believe - unless someone in the couple is under the legal age limit to get married.
The thing is that the government wants this information for statistics and also for tax purposes.
Getting married is something that has legal ramifications, so the government wants to know. Because otherwise I can get married to some girl on the street and then where's the proof of it?

I don't think that needs to happen. If two couples love each other, then they should have the right to get married, not by the government's permission.

I have never heard of having to get the government's permission to get married. I am sure it's not like that here.

I think that's just fine. Because a man and a man, or a woman and a woman can't married unless they have the government's permission, and so it sounds just fair to me

You don't need to get the government's permission to get married in the USA. You just need the government to recognize the union as a marriage, which it doesn't necessarily do. If it doesn't, then you are prevented from legally obtaining certain benefits that you would otherwise have.

No, all the government does is give a couple a legal contract to stay together. Before during the slave times, Africans weren't even though as humans and didn't have the opportunity to get married. But as long as they knew their love was true to them, then they thought of themselves as husband and wife and didn't traditional ceremonies. The Government is Corrupt!

Here in the Mexican Republic, for you to get married, not only do you have to get married civilly but also you have to get married by the church.
