I have a question about what happens to the men who are caught on the show. My fiance and I were talking about this, as we were watching tonight's episode.

What makes these men sign whatever waivers are necessary to put them on the TV show after being busted? It would be illegal to broadcast them without their consent. Why on earth would they get punished by the law AND put their faces on TV?

Unless, there is some type of bargaining process. For instance: if they choose to keep their faces off TV, they get 1 year in jail. But if they choose to sign the waivers and are broadcasted, maybe they only get probation/fined/whatever?

Is the punishment lessened for their participation and willingness to go on the air? If not, why the heck would they do it?

you have a good point. But by being on TV, the sentence is greater than if it was jail time, I'd think.

certainly, their life as they know it is ruined. this is the only motivation for people who watch the show to not do it. Humiliation.

It's probably not illegal to show their faces on tv. The men were probably arrested in a particular state that allows the broadcast of their identity. And, it's not like those men's actions were in doubt and has to be proven first... they are clearly caught on film doing the crime. I think the only way those men could get any decrease in punishment is by not assaulting the cops and the tv crew, especially Chris Hansen.

Dateline is considered a NEWS SHOW and therefore I don't believe waivers to appear have to be signed by any of these guys....hey after being busted with cameras rolling and I'm SURE since they TELL these men WHO THEY ARE after they interview them, I'm pretty sure what we don't see are the ones who UTTERLY REFUSE to allow their "capture" to be on the air. My thoughts are these---they are SEXUAL PREDITORS, once they are arrested, booked, tried and CONVICTED, they must put up FOREVER with public scrutiny due to having to register everywhere they go as a sex offender... and pictures of them end up all over the internet, in schools, everywhere BECAUSE of what they have DONE... so a little peek at them on a TV show is doing them no more harm then what they did to THEMSELVES.

It's not illegal to broadcast their image without consent. They can broadcast their image all they want, because these men are entering private property with the intent of committing a felony -- their right to not have their image broadcast across the world is out the window at that point.

What I cant figure out, is that a lot of these guys have said they have watched the show, and then they do this anyways, What is wrong with these guys' brains.? Its bad enough to want to do this, but when they know people are trying to sting them and they go ahead and do this, anyways?
Morons! they double desereve what ever they get.
They should castrate them to cleanse the gene pool. We dont want any of these morons reproducing, EVER!

Dateline is a news program, therefore, they do not need consent.
