My anole got this bump on her her jaw. Its a little squishy but its kinda like a big ball. A person at my local petstore gave me some calcium for her because she tought it might be from not enough calcium. That didn't work. So she gave me some antibiotics for her. I've been giving them to her for a 2 weeks & the bump doesn't look any better. So now she's decided to try & drain it out & if its to hard to drain out she was going to make a slit & let it drain its self out. Does any one know what this bump could be??? Or if the petstore person is doing the right thing by draining the bump??? Could my Anole die???
PLEASE SHE IS GOING TO DRAIN IT TOMORROW!!!

i used to live in mississippi and i used to catch these things all the time when i was a kid and i love them and the bump is called an abscess horses can get it in their hooves too it does need to be drained or drain itself this website can probably help you if you want to just know about the abscess just go to edit at the top left of the screen and type in bum and you will find it i hope it gets better and i hope he feels better. it will not if drained properly and kept clean for no infections. when i went to petco i was soooo surprised after moving to new york that you could actually sell them for six dollars a peice because they were so easy to catch and to find. =P

Reptile pus forms as a semi-solid, cheese-like consistency rather then a liquid as it does in other animals. It will not drain by itself. The lump will have to be manipulated out through the incision. Flush the wound with a weak betadine solution afterwards or at least use an antibiotic ointment and keep her on paper towels while it heals. If it is an abcess then lancing it is the correct treatment. Obviously a vet would be the better option to perform this but I'm assuming that finances prevent that. Good luck.

How is a petstore employee getting anti-biotics to give to you. Aside from being illegal, they might not even be effective on the abcess if that's what it is. Most reptilian abscesses need to be surgically removed as there is usually very litte fluid. The stuff inside tends to be more solid. Take your anole to a qualified reptile vet and stop having people who are not qualified medicate and do surgery on your animals. You wouldn't have your dog treated by a petstore, why would you subject your reptile in that fashion!?

Why not call a vet instead? Many vets treat reptiles and amphibians. That's what I would do. I've taken my turtles to the vet several times for colds.
