I need some advice. I am currently in a dead end job that i dont really like. I have a two year college degree in business. I am considering working for the post office as a mail carrier and going to school at night to get a 4 year degree, but this will be hard and will take time. The other option i am considering is joining the Army for two years and then going to school on the GI bill. I think the army could give me discipline, which i need. I dont want to keep doing what i am doing now. Also I am 25 yrs old. Thanks.

my advice to you is choose the option that will be comfortable to you. If you choose job that is not suitable to you do not get it instead find fine job that is comfortable with you. you have your job and you will not suffer of being useless.

It is interested that a lot of people that recent graduate in certain universities' program, have no directions about life.
I say that because I am at the same situation, too. And many other friends and colleagues.

What are your strength? How can you put it in practice?

If you are looking for discipline, it should come from your inner urgency to organize yourself. Army, counseling, etc.. won't really change your heart for discipline.

Army can be disturbing and no guarantee you will be disciplined. If your parents didn't discipline you why the army will do.
You should have right reason to join the army. Like serving, fighting and protecting the country type motivation. There are a lot of messed up and nasty people in the army. I believe it is one of the factor that the war isn't going well. I don't blame all in the administration.

I assume you have time. There are few movies unrelated to war, but to think about life. Les Miserables, The last Scottish, and peaceful warrior.

Wish you best and may your best decision be the role for the tomorrow's generation.

If you don't want to spend a butt load of time and energy to get out of your dead end job, I'd say take the post office job and go to school at night. Here's why:

1. You'd only do 2 years at a 4 year college. You're already halfway done with college if you think about it. If you went into the army you'd have to serve at least 4 years before you could actually go to college and learn a trade. And in those 4 years you could go to war or move overseas far from the familiarities of home.

2. Mail carriers make pretty good money, and you'd have plenty of time to take night classes and online courses because the hours are reasonable.

3. What kind of discipline do you need? You got through two years of college, that required some kind of discipline. You wake up, go to work, go to school, and repeat. If you need someone to treat you like crap on top of it let me know.

Good luck.

Don't join the military! Many of my friends are Iraq war vets and have been screwed over by uncle Sam for their service.

If you want discipline, get a dog and clean up its poop every day.

You're 25, you have your whole life ahead of you. We are not in some friggin race, we are living life. Do the mail thing, if that don't float your boat, get another job.

BTW- get a pell grant if you can and go to a cheaper 4 year. Expensive degrees are usually a waste of money and nothing more.

Don't believe the Army hype. If you join you'll be risking your life to protect the interests of American Corporations who really don't care about you except in the role as a consumer. Think about it; you find U.S. troops mainly in places where American resources need to be protected. The Viet Nam War ended when Nixon finally pulled the troops out because they refused to fight and couldn't even get Intelligence anymore. Rent "Sir, No Sir" for more details.

Try starting a small business. You could do from home at first and build it up. You could ask relatives for advice and investments. Good luck!

weigh the 2 options carefully, considering the pro and cons of each one. Then come to a desicion. If oyu experience problems with your decision, you'll have to stick to it and find ways to overcome.

Either way, it is not an easy decision. I hope you find the right guidance and answer. May God guide you in this. Wishing you strength and wisdom in Him.

If you go to school, you can probably get financial aid. If you don't want to join the military, you don't really have to. Definately work on getting to school, if you can really see that that will help you and get you what you want.

You need to start fresh somehow.

Good luck!

I'd go with the army. The army would teach you discipline and pay for your education.

And, as a bonus, if you're killed in Iraq, you won't have to worry about your future.

Hell Matt...do what your pounding heart desires. As long as you are not involved in immoral, criminal, or questionable activities? Do what your pounding heart beats for.
You already know what you want; you don't need us to make your decision for you.
