I think God calls it the "Living Bible" for a reason, i.e. to change and grow with the times. This does not include the basic fundamentals/teachings of Jesus Christ, but the includes all the little extras. For example, the Bible also says that we are not supposed to braid our hair or wear jewelry, none of which are considered sins in this day and age.Taking that into consideration, you must then realize that when the Bible was written, by men, that a women's value was comparable to that of livestock and was not highly regarded in any way. I think God would want both husband and wife, loving, respecting and working together to benefit the family most. I don't think one is meant to be slave to the other.

Personally, I think the Bible is a great book. I often wonder if in the future, we will be worshipping an albino whale or a boy with glasses and a scar across his forehead who magically makes things happen!

I think that whole idea of the man being the head of the household is old fashioned. As for the wife obeying, I think a good marriage has both partners obeying each other.

I'm agnostic but I still think you have to put the entire Bible into context. The synoptic Gospels were written 70CE and well that was AGES ago, so just think when the Old Testement was written... times have changed. You have to look at the idea behind what the verse is talking about not just line by line if you're going to follow the Bible...

I have never read the bible so I'm not even sure if that's in there. But let me ask you something; what do you think of that 'verse' in the bible, or at least I think it's in the bible, that says you should do unto others as you would have do unto you???

Hmmm.... The Bible. Created by men. I honestly believe that God's laws were distorted and misinterpreted. Man is no better or worse than woman. Woman is no better or worse than man. We are equals. Remember back to Genesis. Man AND woman are created in God's image. How could he have intended for one to be above the other. That would be like God doubting himself, which brings down the whole concept of faith.

It also says how a man should treat his wife. Not like a controlling, rude, manipulative, abusive jerk. Also, If it goes against Gods will. They are supposed to obey God first.

Edit: Nobody's perfect, right?

I think there is a reason that they refused to teach women to read and write back then... makes it a whole lot easier to write your own book and maintain your agenda without interference. Anyway, Jesus really cleared up a lot of those things when came around. He said that the old testament was the law and he came to do away with it. The end.

God Himself gave Adam a companion. He provided "a help meet for him" - a helper corresponding to him - one who was fitted to be his companion, and who could be ONE with him in love and sympathy.

Eve was created from a rib taken from the side of Adam, signifying that she was not to control him as the head, not to be trampled under his feet as an inferior, but to stand by his side as an equal, to be loved and protected by him.

A part of man, bone of his bone, and flesh of his flesh, she was his second self; showing the close union and the affectionate attachment that should exist in this relationship.

"For no man ever hated his own flesh, but nourishes and cherishes it."

Scripture sharpens Scripture as steel sharpens steel. You can't just take one verse and build a whole doctrine.

Earlier a person wrote about the next verse that says, "Husbands, love your wives as Christ loves the church."

She's right... it goes both ways.
