I visited the island of Catanduanes in 1996, it was beautiful, and my husband surfs and I know would enjoy it.
Has anyone traveled there recently? Any suggestions of places to stay?

The best surf spot in Catanduanes is Puraran. The place rivals Siargao and Baler, and has hosted international competitions. Lots of inexpensive accommodation dot the place. I can't remember exactly the name of the place we stayed in - - -it is made of native materials and the toilet and showers are in a separate structure that is shared by all the guests.

The place is lovely in a sense - - - if you do not look for 5-star comforts.

Go ahead, you will most definitely find choices of inexpensive accommodation even if you don't pre-book.

By the way, Catanduanes is one of my favorite places. I rank it alongside the natural beauty of Batanes and Palawan.
