I have a bad processor in my Power Mac G-5, it will cost $504 for a authorized apple service person to fix. Can I buy the replacement and install it myself? What brand processor did they use before going to intel, because whatever brand is what I have.

Motorola, the design belongs to a consortium headed by Motorola, but nonetheless the manufactured dies are Motorola.
