I'm 14 years old and have had my period for about a year... I've been using pads for most of that time but have been trying tampons a bit, never really keeping them in for more than long enough to figure out it didn't feel "right". Well today I tried again and I have two questions...

I inserted the tampon as far in as it would go, but when I stood up it still felt really weird and I was aware of where it was and it was just uncomfortable. Why would this be? On the box it said that if it's not pushed in far enough it can be painful but it was as far in as it could go...

And also, taking it out was really painful. It felt like the tampon was sort of sticking to me? It didn't tear the walls, I think, but it hurt and now it feels really tender.

Yes, by the way, I am a virgin but these were the smallest tampons I could find (Tampax, if that helps)

You probably didn't have it in all the way even though you might have thought you did. Plus if its dry when you pull it out it can be painful.

question 1 / if you can feel a tampon then it has not been inserted far enough if you accidentally pull them out a bit then it is very hard to push them further in and you will need to replace them question 2/ no you will need more supplies than that remember that tampons should be changed every 4 -6 hours how ever light you are because of the risks of toxic shock syndrome and this is more common in younger people using tampons. Also you can never be sure that your period will only last another 4 days. Most girls find that for the first couple of years their periods are erratic. You might as well get used to buying supplies as you will get through enough and honestly it is nothing to be embarrassed about what ever age you are. Why does your mum say she will not get them? if my daughter needs some and I am going shopping then I will just pick her some up,

You were probably using a large tampon (was it like a super or super plus?). Those are thicker and can be uncomforable, especially if you're a virgin or very tight.
I have found the for me atleast, the tampax pearl tampons are uncomfortable because they are short and wide and I can feel them.
I use tampax compact, and I only use the normal ones. The heavier ones are uncomfortable for me too, and I have been using them for 8 years now.
As far as the tampon sticking to you, you were not bleeding enough for the tampon to absorb. The cotton was sticking to your walls because there wasnt enough moisture. (Probably because you did not leave it in very long or you may have been using a thicker tampon then necessary).
I would say if you are having a light period, try using even a junior or light tampon (I know tampax makes some), and see if that is more comfortable.

You may be taking it out too soon and your flow might be too light for tampons just yet. You may be putting them far enough in but not at the right angle. They should NOT hurt when you insert them. If they do, you probably need to adjust the angle. They should be changed evry 4 to 6 hours. They should be wet whe you extract them. If it's dry it will stick to your vaginal wall and can cause tearing. Be gentle. Be patient. If your flow is very light, use pads or pantyliners. I'm 23 and I only use panty liners because I have a very light flow. you could also try using a little lubrication (ky, astroglide) as well (not lotion or vaseline....very bad). Good luck.

Well, first, if you are not having a heavy enough flow, it will not be comfortable because it is dry. If you are determined to try again, maybe try a different brand, the applicator matters too, ther is a brand that says it is "pearl" something, anyway, the soft plastic applicator should help. Also use the lightest protection you can, the light flow ones, you can use pantyliner for added confidence. I wouldn't try anymore this month...let it heal and feel better, try again next month. Oh yeah and as for taking it out, maybe even pee first, I know that sounds gross...but it will make sure it is wet, you can hold the string before you pee so it doesn't get wet and then pull as you urinate or just after....just suggestions

I think you need to try a smaller size tampon. Sometimes ones that are too big push against the skin and may even sort of pinch. As for the pain after pulling it out, that may also have to do with the tampon being too large and may be worsened if you are pulling it out when it is nearly totally dry. Try moving to "lites" or "juniors".

It hurt because it wasn't insertd properly. And it hurt during removal because it didn't have time to absorb any liquid. Relax. Keep trying (Have you tried using a slender or teen model?). Sometimes it takes awhile to get it right. Don't worry. you will get it. When inserting the tampon angle it towards your lower back (not straight up).

it is going to take a little while to get used to it. also, if you take out the tampon too soon, its really dry and thats what causes it to hurt.

well when you put it in you should try to relax your muscles because if you try to put it in when you're all tense it won't go in all the way... oh and i it's hard to take out i find that it's because you're using to big of a size. try using a light or regular instead of a super or maxi.
