Why is everyone so concerned w/Democrat vs. Republican? I'm of the opinion that the candidates contradict each other just because of their political party. There are certain things we need to come together on. So what do you say to a compromising government, not Democrat, not Republican- but AMERICAN?

Oh- I KNOW that everyone's going to have a different version of what an American is- but why not focus on similarities first? America's unity is dying- people are losing focus- they root for Democrat and Republican like sports teams. I'm simply suggesting a basic compromise- nothing drastic. there will be political parties, I'm saying that they should take into consideration what the other's say and maybe even stop bashing each other, it's a poor reflection on our country.

Well sunshine
you just brighten our day !!
Great sentiment here -- only one draw back -- that means a One Party system -- the American Party
And, that eliminates choice and veriation
And without choice and veriation -- you have One candidate for the job and no reason to vote !! With one candidate and no reason to vote -- there would be no voting -- and without voting -- NOW THAT'S NOT VERY AMERICAN -- is it ???

I would vote for a third party if they were good for the country and not beholden to special interest groups and not weak on defense.

The reason I am staunchly against Democrats getting elected.

Their policies such as universal health care and global warming are set to destroy the American economy. Social Security is pretty much gone as is and Medicare part D is breaking the federal budget more than the war is.

I also think that they are incredibly weak on defense and will put us in a bad situation if elected.

That is the reason I will be voting republican unless I could find an independent candidate that is decent. I am not so sure that the independentss could get elected at least not this time though. About the only ones that would be running independant would be Bloomburg I have heard of and He isn't really my ideal candidate.

People are going to have differing visions of what "American" means and what the nation should look like. This is why we have political parties.

Parties do not cause gridlock themselves, but differences in worldview. When two sides come from different worldviews that are drastically different it can be hard to compromise or even agree what is "American."

I say that you should study what each candidate says about the major issues: Iraq, health care, the economy, etc. and then make a decision. Inform yourself so that you can make a good choice.

Patriot first, Democrat, second.

Good to meet a fellow patriot.

Gas and brakes together are needed no matter what direction we are going.

Political bigotry and hating America are no longer cool.

Stem Cell research, and more focus on Health Care. These are two subjects that both parties need to agree on.
