any hand held, unique instruments that symbolizes something. like a harp and what it symbolizes. i'm not planning to play an instrument, i just need the idea for my writing. also, if this helps, i'm planning on making a teen boy play the instrument in a fantasy story...any answers are welcome :D

It depends on the character, and what you are trying to symbolize. How do you want the character to be perceived. What about the "shakuhachi"? It's a Japanese flute. It's also slang for oral sex, performed on a man (in Japan), so if the character is gay... I always thought the harp symbolized peace and tranquility. What are you going for?

Irish symbolises or conjurors images of Irish tales. close to that the fiddle this was used in a tale about a ghost in the hills an ecxellent fiddle player had to play for if she wanted to live. book by Mercedes Lackey. could easily be an Irish tale or something similar could be found in an Irish Tale.

The pan flute is a series of different length pipes lashed together and is associated with the Greek God Pan...who had the hind quarters of a goat and was god of shepherds, pastures, rustic music, etc.
