There are several that are better than an iPod.
Creative Zen M and Cowon x5 are the best of the alternatives in my opinion.

yeah there is a 30gb video/picture/ mp3 player called the Archos 404. Its got a wider screen and you can buy it at Walmart for $199. Check it out before u buy an ipod.

It depends on how much music you listen to. the most I've seen for a mp3 is a 5g...and its about 150-200 dollars...or something around there.
an iPod that i seen held about 50g or 70g, cant remember which, but it held 15,000 songs. for the price of 500 dollars. my iPod was 300 dollars for a 30 gig and it holds 7,500 songs.
