Slavery (the ownership, and the buying and selling of another human being) has existed since the time of ancient Sumeria, ancient Greece, and ancient Rome - to try to understand the meaning of slavery using only the form of African slavery as was developed and institutionalised by the Europeans in North (Central & South) America is to miss out on the greater meaning of slavery itself and deny the wrongdoing of others.
The problem with reparations lies in the inability of identifying and bringing to attention those Africans who were complicit in the African slave trade over three hundred years ago. To only have one side of the partnership accept responsiblity and make reparations is an unfair and one-sided legal case.
Slavery exists in other forms today, whether it be in China or Saudi Arabia. I think the problems of today deserve our attention too.

she asked what slavery was. Not if black people were slaves. Black people were not the only slaves. there has been a lot of slaves over the years. Slavery is when you are forced to do something against your will for no pay. you will receive great punishments if you do not do as your told. Slavery has played a big roll in sociality and is still believe it or not around today. I think there is a lot to learn from this shameful event of human history

Slavery is when one person owns another and can exact from that person labor or other services.
Has happened all over the world and is still going on.
Slavery is totally wrong.
I suppose you mean reparations in the United States.
I don't live there and I don't know what's being done.
Seems a bit late to repair the past.
Why don't we all try to stop it happening now, in other places around the world.

Slavery is when human beings are considered property, that can be bought, purchased, sold as a commodity, or forced into servitude against the will of the individual.
There are only a few countries where slavery still remains, it is not legal but the respective governments do not peruse criminal action against the perpetrators. There has been one case in which the "slave" began free and filed charges against the former owner who settled out of court once the international media started to report about the incident. The former "slave" received "back wages and compesation of 1.2 million USD and the charge was changed to failure to adhere to labor code.
I think slave owners should be prosecuted and forced to compesate the slave(s) for their labor and suffering.

slavery was a horrible streak on America's history. But I also think that America wouldn't be what it is today without it. i don't think that reparations should be made because it happened years ago and black people now benefit from this country just as much as white people

Slavery is a legal or economic system in which principles of property law are applied to humans allowing them to be classified as property,[1] to be owned, bought and sold accordingly, and they cannot withdraw unilaterally from the arrangement. While a person is enslaved, the owner is entitled to the productivity of the slave's labour, without any remuneration. The rights and protection of the slave may be regulated by laws and customs in a particular time and place, and a person may become a slave from the time of their capture, purchase or birth.
Today, chattel slavery is unlawful in all countries, but a person may still be described as a slave if he or she is forced to work for another person without an ability on their part to unilaterally terminate the arrangement. Such situations are today commonly referred to as "practices similar to slavery". The present form of the slave trade is commonly referred to as human trafficking.
Slavery existed before written history and in many cultures.[2] It was once institutionally recognized by most societies, but has now been outlawed in all countries,[3][4] the last being Mauritania in 2007. However, it continues through such practices as debt bondage, serfdom, domestic servants kept in captivity, certain adoptions in which children are forced to work as slaves, child soldiers, human trafficking, and forced marriage.[5] Accordingly, there are more slaves today than at any time in history, with an estimated 45 million slaves worldwide.[6]

Black Americans should be paid reparations for 400 years of slavery. Just like criminals who attacks a person and injury's the person is told to pay back restitution for the harm he has done.

Slavery is when you own another person, and they have no rights and no say in how they live or what they do.
Reparations are not going to happen. Slavery, while reprehensible, was legal, so there was no crime to repay.
