Actually it's never been done, since no one has ever played all nine defensive positions AND designated hitter... (there, that should rile up the dweebs...)

As for playing all nine D positions:
Bert Campaneris did it back in the 1960s.

Two other players did it very late in a recent season -- one was a Ranger, and it wasn't the same game -- lemme see if I can dig it up.

-----
edit: Ah! Rangers player was Scott Sheldon on 06-September-2000, and he didn't even start the game. Box score below. Someone else did it about a week later, still digging....

Oh, there we go, Shane Halter, Tigers, and Tovar.

When I was in Mobile in 1994, we had an independent league team named the Baysharks, who I worked for as an official scorer. There was this player named Lance Ward, whose brother Turner played for the Brewers. Both attended the University of South Alabama. The last game of the season was Labor Day of 94 and Lance wanted to play every postion available. He talked to his manager, who gave him the green light, because the team was not going to go to the playoffs. I made the announcement to everyone in the press box, including the radio crew and they were okay with it. It took the fans a half an inning to figure out was was going on but they caught on. By the way, Lance finshed the game on the mound and got the win. So yes, it's possible but a team has to be either so far up or down in the standings to make it work.

Didn't the Dodgers Derrel Thomas do it in the early 80s?
