Sure you need it as instinct to defend yourself and family, but does it get you anywhere in a discussion??

No, it really doesn't. Perhaps in caveman days it was useful, but now all it does is cause heart attacks, high cholesterol, headaches, etc. However, when one learns to control the anger, and uses it as an "excuse" for lack of a better word, to excuse themselves from that particular situation, it gives them time to clear the mind, and think through and find an alternative to the anger, or perhaps a solution to the problem that is causing the anger. But that only works on those who have evolved, not those who are still neanderthal.

Anger has two branches: productive & unproductive. Productive anger usually has either an admonishing trait or one that aids you in driving on towards a goal. The latter has usually to do with merely perceived threats toward your reputation. However, anger is the rationale in humans succumbing to the 'emotion of the moment.' This being a signal of a possible weakness (that you let emotions take over), the same goal can be obtained through remaining calm and reasonable. When it comes to argument, 'brains' has a very high probability of overcoming 'brawn.'

Absolutely not. Except people will do anything to get rid of you. And, honey is so much sweeter and you get so much more out of it. Treat others with honey. It's sticky sweet which people get a little to much of and will leave to recuperate, but will become addicted to and come back for more. So, you'll always have someone around and when you've had enough, just overdose their honeypots so they'll go home happy, content and tired.

Not really, but it's healthier to express anger than to repress it.
Ask the question this way: Does not showing your anger and keeping it to yourself get you anywhere?

The short answer , No ! All it does is eats away at you from the inside if you don't let it go ....

The secret is to get it out & then deal with the issue causing it ! Easier said than done if it's beyond your control to do anything constructive about !
