Note our strongest socialists here at Yahoo! have outed themselves from this question on technicalities.
It would be interesting to rephrase it as: "If a socialist says he wants everyone to be equal, what does he mean?" and see if they weigh in or find another way to avoid the question.
They don't want it for your sake, or for mine. It's for power. If we won't give them socialism, they undermine the country, turn people away from the government, turn people against each other, try to do the same things they did in most countries that turned socialist. They don't get it. Won't work here because of free speech. We catch on too quick.
If they can undermine sufficiently, they swoop in and save the "common man". Have you seen how many people have already bought it, hook, line, and sinker, as well as the end of the dock the socialists are sitting on?
The socialists turned part of my party into an arm of the socialist parties (when it split into three parts) back in the 1970s. I've been fighting it ever since instead of abandoning ship.
See the link below, under "split" halfway down the page to see where the Democratic party got this crowd of party crashers.
NOW THIS IS INTERESTING!
I've tried three times in different ways to post this link and failed, but I can post the rest. Try this:
Go to Wikipedia. Look up the Socialist Party of America. Look half-way down the page to where it describes how it split (under "SPLIT" heading) and see where the democratic party fits in.
Good luck to those educated enough to do a little research. Wonder why I couldn't post it? I don't know, truthfully.

First off, there hasn't been more than a handful of 'socialists' in US politics since the 1930s, and nobody has ever suggested equality of 'outcome'. The 'equality of outcome' phrase is something put into the mouth of the socialist strawman by none other Mr. Rush Limbaugh way back in the 1980s. Further, even in the 30's when 'socialism' enjoyed a bit of public acceptance the total influence was small and largely specific to certain social issues. The current right wing of the GOP evidently needs a strawman enemy so to avoid dealing with the really big issues that affect the American wage-earner. They babble on about 'liberals', and 'socialists' and the 'commies' instead of such real issues as affordable medical insurance, affordable higher education, real security at our borders, the environment and ending this terrible endless war in the middle east. Take a hint....the strawman argument isn't going to scare anyone anymore!

EQUALITY IS WONDERFUL THING, just two bad we are not all equal. Some people are great business people, some machinist, some are gardeners or teachers.
Should a Policeman be just as equal as the bank robber?
To be equal would mean that no single person could be any better than the least of the population and this would be sad as I feel a fair system would make room to each to be the best that they could be and a place for as many of them as possible.

You are correct. That's exactly what Hillary Clinton would like to shove up Americas' nose! Socialist and Communist are almost the same thing and only an inch away from NAZI! The boss makes the rules, the public obeys, the money is taken from the working earners by the Government and spent as they see fit. (Mostly on themselves and their supporters). If Hillary wins, this country will see the biggest rise in black-marketing and under the table dealing in history. The taxes on the real Americans who work hard and struggle to raise their families will skyrocket to the point where it won't be worth the effort anymore. Of course they'll blame Bush and the Republicans and they'll be wrong. Watch this! Here it comes!

I have no idea. I have never, to my knowledge, met a real socialist. But I have met a lot of conservatives lately who toss this term around like it's just the coolest thing since sliced bread. Them? They are idiots.

Because it helps further their Evil agenda!!
In example, they say give equal rights to Sodomites in order for them to be married, If this were allowed, How would it affect the traditional bonds of marriage? Well, for one thing, it would lead to incestual marriage, Father marries daughter, Mother marries son and so forth, it would then lead to further equally horrible acts of indecency, such as bestiality, the people then would want to be able marry their goats, donkeys, dogs, cats, etc, etc. You get the point!!
Also, when liberals utter equality -- when we conservatives say, give the unborn the oppurtunity to live first, then the liberals retaliate by wanting to give the woman right to choose to kill her baby, and that's why there have been over 50 million innocent babies murdered by abortion doctors here in the U.S. today, More than the holocaust BTW.
When Liberals utter equality, they want to give amnesty to illegals, and completely disregard the people of our own nation.Sad.
And the list goes on, and on, and on!!!
Oh well, you see what I mean.
Liberals are destroying America!!
WAKE UP PEOPLE!!!

They speak of equality as long as it does not include their leaders. You see, the leaders in the liberal movement have convinced the poor in the country that this is a good idea. However, the leaders of the movement put themselves outside of it...kind of like Congress puts themselves outside of the laws they pass.
You are absolutely right about equality. It is amazing that people who sit around and live off welfare think that they should have the same life as I do, though I worked multiple jobs, and saved and invested, and started a business and am responsible for several jobs, to get where I am. THAT IS ABSURD!

Because it is better to motivate people to work as little as possible. Then we will have more brain surgeons and less hamburger flippers.
If we push every person through the play-dough mold enough times, we will get rid of all variance and end up a wonderful shade of gray.
By the way, NEVER, EVER apologize for not being able to understand idiotic, feel-good babble.

I believe you are right. They are not talking about equal opportunity. They are talking about equal monetary status. They want everyone in the same size house the same size car the same size bank account. It will not work. The achievers do more and deserve more. If you take away the incentive to achieve, this country will go straight into economic heart failure.

Egalitarianism is truly the way to go.
But too many people get greedy and it never works. The world is beyond repair as far as consumerism goes, and we will never get anyone who has "made it" or, more often, "been given it" to share it withe those less fortunate. Not lazy, but with the inability to sustain themselves for one reason or another. We are all brothers and sisters and yes, we are all children of god. Whatever you believe god to be. We are all in this together.
POWER TO ALL PEOPLE!
