Depo is the recommended birth control for breastfeeding mothers, if you don't want the pill.

Depo is safe for breastfeeding moms! I've been bf'g for 8 months with Depo as my birth control and have had no milk supply problems.

Moving from formula feeding to breast feeding will be more of a hassle than dealing with Depo. I am very happy to have used it for several years before my pregnancy and not have any problem getting pregnant. I was told at my last injection that the makers have changed their recommendations regarding long-term use of Depo-- apparently they now say you shouldn't take it for more than two years in a row because of possible bone density loss. I guess you can go back to it after a time has passed or if the doctor does a bone scan and finds you don't have problems.

Good luck!

depo isn't suppose to hurt your child at all. Call your doctor to hear it from him/her so there's no doubt or worry.

When I really started to look into breastfeeding it felt like I would be a horrible mom not to since it does so much for baby like raising their IQ etc... It'll help you to lose weight. Congrats on making the right decision!!

the hormone may decrease your milk supply, you may want to rent or buy a pump to help increase your milk. Talk to a lactation nurse or la leche leauge for more help.
