1. Creativity. Having an appreciation for the non-obvious solution is a must if a sales pro is going to outpaced the pack.
2. Passion. Genuine love for a product gets salespeople through the inevitable dark times, and it makes their offers all the more irresistible to their clients. Passion, like creativity, cannot be faked, so it has great weight with customers.
3. Integrity. "We're building a relationship, and it's imperative that the customer trusts the salesperson."
Feeling good about a purchase is a hallmark of buying from a salesperson with integrity. "Trust brings [customers] back, and that's a key factor to the success of any salesperson,"
4. Tenacity. Shelving feelings of rejection to keep plugging away is another essential requirement for sales success. It also requires a certain steely quality to persist in the wake of one dismissal after the next. "Sales requires someone who can always see possibilities, even in difficult situations."
5. Commitment. The sales cycle for any big deal can typically take months, even years. Keeping an eye on the prize, while continuing to sell to other prospects simultaneously, takes commitment.

what do salesmen need to learn? everything about the product they are selling. You might have excellent communication skills, people skills but you don't know anything about your product................how can you expect to close the sale?
everyone of us is a salesperson. from the moment we were born, we are selling. we cry when we need to eat; need a change of diaper or we feel uncomfortable. we are doing sales when we are trying to convince our parents to increase our allowance or even let us attend parties. we do sales when we try to convince our teachers to give us a passing grade. we do sales when we are trying to "woo" a girl. we do sales when we are applying for a job. What is the common denominator here? If we are selling ourselves so we should know our selves. Therefore, salespeople need to learn product knowledge.

That consumers will not buy everything that salesmen offer to them. That your product must be better than other products - - - at least in an attribute relevant to your target consumer.

Tact and perseverance; ability and confidence in himself and in the product he is endorsing. He should also be courteous towards his prospects or customers even if they don't buy anything from him. And most of all, never forget to project a happy disposition. It is very contagious and it sometimes help to attract customers.

knowing how to sell their products mean knowing the product itself.. that is, you know everything about the produc.. the good points and the bad points as well.. and if you have to compare with similar producs and want to focus on the 'best points' of your product, make sure that you avoid too much 'downgrading' your competitor..
and be sure that you actually use the products you're selling.. and be truthful with whatever you say about the products you're selling
