Running is a cardiovascular exercise and weight lifting is for "strength building'. However, doing BOTH is essential. Too lose weight you must do cardio because it burns fat. Weight lifting, however, builds lean muscle which actually FIGHTS fat. The more muscle you have the LESS fat you have. (Fat burns 2 calories per hour and Muscle burns 48 calories per hour - so the more muscle the faster your body burns fat.) When you see women who are lean with nicely sculpted arms and legs they do both ... cardio alone will not produce the sexy curves that weight lifting can.

Many women are afraid of weight lifting because they do not want to get "BIG" muscles ... however that is IMPOSSIBLE unless you take steroids. Research now shows that the benefits of weight lifting are as important as cardio. It helps your posture, your metabolism, fights cellulite, gives you extra energy, strengthens your bones and protects against osteoporosis.

You should do cardio 5 x's a week for at least 30 minutes and weight lift 2 - 3 x's a week. Always skip a day between weight lifting because your muscles need time to rest. If you "google" weight lifting programs for losing weight you'll get some good info. A book I love is "Body for Life" by Bill Phillips. Here is a link to his website ... there's good info there as well!

Hope this helps! =)

A combination. Running helps you to lose weight and builds up muscle at the same time. Weight lifting helps build muscle and tone what you already have.

Lifting weights builds muscle, which would make you weigh more. Running burns more fat. But it's good to do both.
