There are many reasons why you can have low to no signal at range.
1) RF interference in your area. Can be caused by cordless 2.4GHz phones, microwaves and other wireless networks near your home. Move any cordless basestations and hand sets atleast 5 feet from your router and your computer. Also do a area survey using a program like netstumbler, http://www.netstumbler.org , and see if there are other wireless networks broadcasting on the same channel as you. Most routers default at channel 6 and people dont know enough to set them so they dont interfere or get interference from others, If possible set yours to channels 1 or 11 as they have the least amount of freq. crossover compared to others.
2) The material your home is made of. If you have concrete walls or ceilings, or you have tin or aluminum covered insulation in your walls, these could reflect wireless signals. There is really nothing you can do about this, with the exception of maybe mounting a repeater near you room to amplify the signal from your router.
3) Also make sure the router, the antenna actually, is mounted atleast 6 feet off the floor. RF covers a area like a umbrella and higher is better.

Hope that helps.....

If you live in a place with metal studwork in the walls, or even concrete walls, the signal may be compromised. Power lines running in a wall may also have an effect. Try changing the wireless channel first. This may work. The only other thing I would know is locate the router in a place that can be seen by the other room, or perhaps try a signal booster
