Check your fuses. There's always a fuse somewhere between the ignition switch and the starter. It may be in the panel under the dash or even up in the engine bay. In addition, you may have a relay someplace that is stuck open and needs to be replaced.

Another possibility is your ignition switch is bad.

Another possibility is the battery terminals are dirty. I'd start there, clean them thoroughly with a wire brush and get inside the loops and arounds the posts, too. Then start checking fuses.

Some manufacturers use fusible links from the starter switch to the solenoid, I can't remember if that make has them, but that is a possibility, Mopars do have them and they have the same symptoms as yours when they blow them. Hope this helps.

we are the borg, you will be assimilated and made into a mechanic drone where you will learn to repair automotive vehicles. it sounds as though your jetta may have fuses blown, or you could simply try giving it some gas while you start it. (i had a jetta that wouldnt run unless i gave it some gas as i started it....)
resistance is futile.

theres a clutch petal position sensor on the clutch petal... my guess is that went- since the electrical system works fine otherwise (radio and interior lights come on normally) and just doesnt try to start
