In your experience, have you found aftermarket gaskets (head, valve, crankshaft, camshaft, oil pain, transmission, transfer case, differential, exhaust manifold, intake manifold, etc.) to be of the same quality as that purchased from the dealer?

Also, can you please specify which gasket type to which you are referring: aftermarket or dealer, etc. Some of the answers are a bit confusing -- I assume that when responders say "they", the responders are referring to "aftermarket gaskets" instead of "OEM/dealer gaskets."

sometimes they are just as good as factory ones if not better... you dont have to use a dealers parts unless its one of the hard to find parts they are many great gasket makers and sometimes you will end up finding that the aftermarket ones are made by the same people that sells to the dealer... dont worry after driving and working on my cars and trucks for 30 yrs... ive not any problems with using any aftermarket products in most cases they are better

Depends on the application. FelPro makes some gaskets that are much improved over the dealer part, such as intake gaskets on GM 3.8 or headgasket for the Dodge 2.0. Other are not so hot such as valve cover gaskets where Felpro may be cork and the dealers is silicone rubber.

So there is no right or wrong answer it is just what your experience has taught you.

Depends on brand name of gaskets. Most euro car makers don't make gaskets on their own. So aftermarket gasket is your only choice. I had pretty good result with Fel-Pro water pump gasket in the past. Compare with Volvo OE gasket, it was actually thicker and more superior. I would generally use aftermarket gaskets for everything except the cylinder head gasket.

Without a doubt,FEL PRO is head and shoulders above the rest. They also make OEM gaskets. Same gasket, lots cheaper at parts store. Use the phone, and shop around.
