I get up, get my coffee and play a few games just to kick my brain into gear to where it can function. I like mahjong, and bejewelled, and free cell. When my daughter was talking to me we have a great time playing Wheel of Fortune via msn messenger - I do crosswords, and watch Jeopardy as well.

I cannot get the hang of sudoku, yet - it takes me awhile to figure things out.

I find playing games wake up my brain, how about the rest of you?

Judd and others, let me add to my question, do you like to play games in general, like Trivial Pursuit, Super Quiz, scrabble? I love scrabble. Chess? I really hate monopoly but bought the little guy Junior Monopoly so I had to suck it up and play with him. :-)

living alone, I do spend quite a bit of time on line, usually in the evenings. Today is an exception. I normally get up, do my toilette and while getting dressed, check my e-mail. Then I take care of business, some of which is on line, and work in my shop. in the evenings since TV has become exceedingly boring and my meds make me fall asleep if I try to read, I spend time on my computer. Along with answering my e-mail, I am an activist and spend much time trying to get this country back where it's supposed to be. It is a constant battle against those in our government who are actively trying to sell this country down the river. I love to play board games with friends but find playing games on line a waste of time. I have more important things to keep my mind active. As you can tell, I also drop into Yahoo questions occasionally. However, usually not in the middle of the day.

I was playing Freecell at work every break and at lunch. It was addicting. Then I read that doing puzzles helps the memory so I found Jigzone on the internet. I stopped Freecell and started doing puzzles everyday. It became addicting, too. Lately I discovered Ask Yahoo! Now this is addicting. When questions are slow I revert back to Freecell and puzzles. When I go somewhere I take word-find, that's a game in a paperback book that has the letters of words backwards, at an angle,or across, mixed in with random letters.

I like scrabble, backgammon and checkers. I will play Monopoly if I can find someone to play with. I like to play some card games. No... I don't not enjoy watching poker tournments on television.

I hope that they are waking up my brain. I really do!

I play on-line bridge at Bridgebase.com...it is world class bridge and an excellent game..facing 3 real opponents via the Internet...and yes, it keeps my brain working full time. I admit that I do it in fits and starts, but at least once a day to get things moving. I do the bridge columns in the paper after I have read the LA Times and the OC Register (two very opposing views), then answer all email, and then onto Bridge for 20 minutes or so. After this, I am ready to face the world on its terms, not mine. I agree, keeping the old gray matter exercised is as important, if not more so, than physical exercise (I do that in the afternoon). I hadn't played bridge in 20 years, but found that I had lost none of the old gray matter power when I came back to the game. My mother taught me the game when I was 9, and it is a game that you NEVER master entirely. It is a nasty game to get into, but once you are into it, it is addictive as hell....no two hands are ever the same, no two opponents are ever the same, and we won't even talk about different partners (you know, the ones that are SUPPOSED to be on your side ! ) :-)

73 and going strong. Shoot pool every morning for an hour with lady friend of 82. Cards in the afternoon for two hours. work computer games during the day. Mahjong and fairway solitare plus many more. Helps to keep the mine active. Am getting better at recall because of computer use. Walking clears the mind as well as body.

I like to play Solitaire, Solitaire 13, Free Cell, Flip Words, Text Twist and Pop & Drop. My husband likes Free Cell and Bounce Out. He played Collapse until he reached a score of more than a million, then he quit playing it.

Sometimes I'll do crosswords.

I've found that Y/A also stimulates the brain. It's fun giving help where I can, poking fun at those who need it, and reading what others think.

I used to play Sims, Sims City and Civilization, but the computer I have now is too old for those games, so I play N64 games: Legend of Zelda games, Kirby, Mario 64, Donkey Kong, Harvest Moon. Does that count? I am interested in an RPG, but not a fantasy one. Something more on the lines of history.

Playing games that require some thinking
strategies actually improve brain function. These games involve higher order thinking skills. Such games help keep Alzheimer at bay longer. Students who engage in such games see their scores improve and find they are able to retain
information better. I love Bejeweled and Free Cell. I also love Pyramid, Chuzzle, Chains 2: Relinked, Scrabble Blast and Bespelled.

I love puzzles. Every morning I sit with my coffee and do the crossword puzzles, the scrambles, the cryptoquotes and suduko. Then, later in the day, I sit at my computer and continue to play the games, especially Text Twist. When friends come over we play Scrabble or Rummy Cube. Got to keep my old brain in working order.

Pardon me young lady:
Brain, active, please identify body part or assemblies, I sit a lot.
Games, interior, exterior, which decade.
Computer...I still have a can of #2 pencils

Not since the kids got out of HS. Its enough for me to get through the days News and figure out who's crazier, me or the News. Used to play Scrabble, but the wife beats me to much. For any other real brain activity I just drive on the freeway to see if I can make it back home, "alive".
Never was a a board game player.

I like scrabble. I love words and the first thing I do before logging in is to pull up the scrabble screen. Our family loves all kinds of board games and a few that are just free form. When I go to my one daughter's place, I join in games with teenagers-pre-teens and the old folks in their forties. It's fun to see how much they know and they're always surprised to find out how much their gramma knows.
