Tread Depth Coin

Why even bother with a coin? Tires now have tread depth lines in the tires. Look close on the tread pattern you will seen a higher thin line crossing from sidewall to sidewall in 6-8 spots on the tire. when the tire is worn out, that tread depth line will be a solid strip of rubber from side wall to sidewall. Telling you to go and get your vehicle some new rubber.

Ya you take the head of Lincoln and place it top of head first into the tread if the tread touches Abes hair then you are still OK. But then there are tread wear indicators that run perpendicular to the tread they will show bars across the tire then it's time to change

Treadwear indicators are a great way to assess your tyres if you haven't like most people got a tyre depth gauge You can simply locate the twi's and feel tread above. If the tread is level with the twi then replace the tyre. Tyre places will check your tyres for free. if they tell you your tyre needs replacing ask them if it is illegal. Often they will then qualify their answer by saying that it will need changing soon. Shop around at this point as prices for the same spec and brand can vary.

Upside-down penny. If you can see the top of Lincoln's head, you need to change your tire.
