No, your mom is not an allien. And I'm pretty sure every woman gets her period, yes.

1) At first all of your periods will not last the same length. They will be very different in most cases. It can take up to three years, and up until the age of 16 years old for your periods to become normal. In the meantime, you might get really short periods lasting a day or two, really long periods lasting up to 10-14 days, skip periods (not have one some months), have multiple periods in the same month, have discharge only (brown discharge, old blood the body is getting rid of), have spotting only (red spots of blood), have breakthrough bleeding only (bright red almost transparent looking blood). All of these things are normal and very common. Eventually, your period will become more "organized" and you will begin to know when it will hit each month, and approximately how long it will last. 5-7 days is normal for a period, all though some people have longer periods and some people have shorter ones. 2) You won't always know when your period is coming. Sometimes there will be warning signs: period cramps, bloating, tiredness, sore feet, water weight, sore lower back, and vagina tenderness. Other times you won't have any symptoms or warning signs at all. More often then not for the first few years your period will just "spring up" whenever it wants to, and you won't get much warning. As a general rule, you should always keep pantiliners and pads with you. 3) Period cramps very from person to person. Some people have mild stomach cramps that feel like the cramping you get when you have the stomach flu and have to vomit. Other people, like myself, get severe period cramps that can have you bent over wincing in pain. Period cramps are not comfortable, but they are a part of periods. A heating pad, Therma Care Menstrual Wraps, and/or a Soft Heat reuseable wrap are all effective heating methods to deal with pain. Therma Care Menstrual Wraps are great at school to wear under your clothes, because no one knows they are there. Midol or Pamprin Multi Symptom Maximum Strength can help treat the bloating and the cramps. Ibuprofen is also very effective against period cramps, but it does not help with the bloating like Pamprin and Midol do. 4) This question can very, some mornings you will wake up to blood in your underwear, but more often than not, you will be out and about and just start bleeding. While your body is adjusting to your period, it's a good idea to wear pantiliners as often as possible to prevent any embarassing moments. EVERY WOMAN has a period maybe what your mom ment was she doesnt really know why you have a period i dont think she ment she doesnt know what they are.. No woman really knows why she has a period. But everyone has them because if a woman doesnt have her period then she cant have kids. But you have to have a period until you get older than you loose it but as for that every woman has one

If your mom gave birth to you, she has had a period. End of story. A woman cannot give birth to a child if she has never had a period.

I'm think all women get them. I know I do. Maybe she misunderstood you. If you are not sure talk to your aunt for grandma. Or maybe even your dad if you have that type of relationship.
