actually, if it was delivered by the U.S. Postal service, then it is a federal crime if they open it...only the person it was addressed to can open a letter delivered by the USPS unless it is viewed as a danger to others or suspected of containing hazardous/illegal materials...

Yes. Your company is entitled to assume that what you are doing while you are "at work" is work related. and therefore not private, including receiving mail.
Some companies actually make you sign an acknowledgement of this as a condition of employment, but it can still be a policy, even if you haven't signed anything.
Many companies insist on this policy, even though they don't enforce it because they don't want to get sued because of errors. It is simply not possible for a company to guarantee that all mail will get delivered correctly and they might miss markings of "personal" or "confidential". It's just a practical matter. If ou don't want your coworkers to read it, don't have it sent to work.
