While the Bible does have some good philosophical points to me, it also is lacking in some areas. For instance the old testament is riddled with examples of God commanding various acts that today are not seen as the moral high road. These facts are often disregarded or given an attempt of being explained away (such as Jesus came and changed the rules from those examples). However, if you take only the Bible (and only the Bible) as a philosophical example of then you are severely limiting yourself on the vast breadth of knowledge available from many cultures over many thousands of years. But the Bible has in fact changed life for the worst if people take the old testament (or Torah) literally. One could even say genocide could be rationalized if using the Bible as a literal example (how about when the Jews came out of the desert into the promised land, and were told to destroy all living things owned by the tribes living there?). But of course many tout that the Bible is not to be taken literally, at least for all examples. So it's pick and choose. This leaves the Bible up for highly interpretive examples, so one can literally use it as a justification for almost anything. It's within this context that extremism can be justified and can make the Bible a philosophical nightmare.

the way the Bible works is if you apply it to your life. You can definitely look to the Bible from a philosophical viewpoint - as a matter of fact, that's how most people view it. The biggest fact that changed my life was that I serve a living God (not a dead prophet), and a very personal savior who has been there when I didn't have friends or I was let down by my biological father. The wisdom of the Bible has helped me keep persisting through my faults and mistakes instead of making excuses that I just can't do it.

"Turn the other cheek" ? You'll be red faced the rest of your life from the slaps. Listen to a song by Kenny Rogers. "The Coward of the County". You'll get my drift of this question.

Of course, lets say you want to see farther. Philosophically speaking, you could pray to god which would accomplish nothing, or you could stand on the bible.
Works for me.

You people have got to learn to spell and use proper grammar or no one will ever take you seriously.
How can I respect someone's religious views if they cannot communicate them correctly?
