I need an ignition key made for an '01 Chrysler LHS. Didn't this year have car keys with the electronic detectors in them thus requiring a special key technique/equipment? Where do you go for such a thing. How much are the spare keys?

you have to go to the dealer ship no matter what. but you can get the fake key but you can only open the door and the trunk but you can't start the car.

Since no one addressed your first question, here's the answer.
The easiest way to tell if you have a car that has SKIM (Sentry Key Immobilizer), the top of the key will be soft, rubbery and gray. If it is hard plastic, then you for sure don't have SKIM.
And like others have said, the only way to program the key is at the dealership. However, there are people who do save money by buying the uncut, unprogrammed key off of eBay and then bringing that key to a dealership to cut and program.

Go to a chrysler dealership and give them the make model and vin # and they will get you one.They are expencive.Be prepared they can be pricey.They can cost you at least 60 and up to 150 bucks.If your car does not have a chip you can just take the key you have and go to just about any hardware store and have one made just for a couple bucks.

First go to Wal-Mart and make sure they can't make a duplicate and they will tell you if it has a chip...if it has a chip then you will need to go to the dealership where you purchased the vehicle or a dealership that sells new Chryslers and have them make you one up...it can cost anywhere from $15 to $50.

Hi they have the keys you want at home depot and ace hard ware and all the auto shops... they cost abotu $35 ..
Had to get one for my explorer...
