Well, that depends on how many watts your florescent uses. Most fluorescents are lower in watt, but produce a brighter light and that is why so many people are moving to the new fluorescent. So I would venture to say that your ceiling light, which you have already stated is florescent, uses less energy than your 40 watt lamp.

The amount of electricity used by the ceiling fixture depends upon the type and number of bulbs in the fixture. A 2' x 4' florescent fixture can have 2 or 4 bulbs at up to 40 watts each, so this configuration would use more than the 40 watt lamp. On the other side of that, some of the new compact florescent bulbs use as little as 10 watts, in which case it would use less than the lamp. Check the bulbs and add up the wattage.

In any case, the florescent will give more light and less heat for the amount of energy used compared with the incandescent lamp.

Fluorescent bulbs give you more light for the same wattage. What the fixture is plugged into makes no difference.

Overhead fluorescent give decent light for a room like a kitchen, but there can be dark areas where the counters are shaded by the upper cabinets. High end homes always show under cabinet lighting, but often these are offsetting the energy savings of the fluorescent.

The most efficient light in my house is the 7 Watt compact fluorescent in my reading light. It gives great light, right where I need it, and almost no heat. A 7 Watt incandescent is a nightlight!

All i'll assert on the subject of the lighting fixtures furniture is that that's outstanding what proportion properties do not comprise lighting fixtures furniture as a common characteristic. i offered a halfplex geared up returned in 1985, and there is one mattress room and the great room that don't have lighting fixtures furniture. in case you have the relationship bins, it is not too challenging to place in a easy. in case you do not, that's a important soreness to tug the wires, that's why i think of no one has troubled to accomplish that for the final 20+ years in this place.

Watts are watts no matter the source. Check the wattage of your florescent tube then double it for the other tube.

They draw the same amount. Electricity is measured according to the amount that comes into the home and is consumed by the occupants. Whether you tap into an outlet or electrical line, or whether you plug into a socket, you will draw the same amount of electricity.
