It sounds fine, depending on the exact pattern/or lack of, of the skirt and sweater. I'd prefer a black coat and skirt and a solid colored sweater I think to make it look sophisticated, and probably high, flat, black boots.

wear it all the time in the winter.
although if I am wearing knee lenth skirt, would have the trench slightly longer or shorter.
