Hi there,

I am 32 weeks as of yesterday. I have noticed over the past two days or so a descrease in fetal movement. My Dr. said to be concerned and let them know if I feel movement less than 12 times in 6 hours, and I do believe I feel her that often. However, her kicks are definitely less frequent than in subsequent weeks, and also less strong. Would could this mean? I know, you all are going to say "call your Dr.!" but I just wanted some other personal advice. Everything else seems perfect, I feel great, baby is growing on schedule and her heartbeat at my last appointment was normal, and strong at 160. (that was 5 days ago)

I wouldn't worry to much till you can't feel the baby 2 times an hour or so. As the baby grows, if doesn't have as much room to play or kick. My baby done the same thing. She didn't move but maybe once an hour at the last. If you are really worreid then I would let the doctor check it out and if not then I wouldn't worry til you don't feel the baby for a while. Good Luck and Congrats!!!!!!!

Hey girl,

She's getting bigger...with less room to keep up on her aquatic gymnastics. I had the same problem with Jackson (my little one)...rushed into the doctor, strapped to the fetal monitor....the whole nine yards....and it turned out fine. Just keep track of her kicks and rolls...

Now, if you feel NOTHING for over a few hours, then call the doctor ASAP....even quicker than ASAP....sometimes the cord can wrap itself around the baby when the baby tries to move around....so that usually is the culprit. Her home is becoming smaller by the week, so it's tough being smooshed!

Great news about the heartbeat being strong! September is just around the corner!!

It could be that the baby is so large right now that her space to move is gone. What your doctor told you is good but it doesn't help a mother waiting to give birth to be put at ease. If you are really worried about it go in to the doctor every 2-3 days and just have them check the heartbeat. I think at this point you should actually be able to hear the heartbeat yourself with just a stethoscope. My last one was like that so I really paid attention to any little movement. Your appointments will be going to weekly here pretty quick so hang in there.

If you're not getting your kick counts (you HAVE to count them to be sure) then you really do need to call the OB. If you are, baby could just be resting more while going through a growth spurt. My first was like that starting about the same time - he'd have a few really quiet days and then WHAM he'd go like a madman for the next couple of weeks and the cycle would start again. Whenever you're concerned, call your doctor but they'll want to know that you're actually doing your kick counts. Hang in there and best of luck!

It could be that she's running out of room in there, making it harder to kick and move around. After all, she's growing a lot. My babies always slowed down a bit the last couple of weeks, and all three were perfectly healthy.

At 32 week gestational age, a fetus can survive outside the body, most of the time, without any hugely life-threatening problems. Around 32-36 weeks, the lungs are becoming nicely developed. If it happens that you must give birth early, as I really don't know what decreased movement indicates, your baby should stand a good chance of being otherwise normal when delivered.

Everything else you describing sounds good. I hope everything works out favorably.

You can get lots of "personal advice" on this, but the only sure way to know that all is well is to call your doctor again and see if he/she is willing to do an ultra sound- many obgyn's can do one right in the office. If you are genuinely concerned, please call.
