For some background, i am 14 years old and i live in the philippines. I wrote a 117,000 word fantasy novel with a friend (who is currently editing). I want to have a list of agents that will most likely represent my work and also myself.

If you're read Eragon (don't like the author much), i think you would have an idea of the plot structure, but our book, Legion of Fire, is very different in the characters, setting etc. It is some kind of cross between a sci-fi and a fantasy novel. We plan to beat Paolini in terms of age. Really need help . . . fast.

First of all you want to be very careful as you shop your book around. Before you do anything, print out a clean copy that has your copyright notice on it ©First Name/Last Name 2007 and mail it to yourself in a sealed envelope. Then put the unopened envelope in a file for safekeeping should you ever need to prove the date of your authorship.

Read up on the subject of finding and working with the right agent. Using the search words "how to hire a literary agent," I came up with the following list of books that offer a limited preview. Don't be in a rush to find an agent. Take your time.

Good luck.

P.S. You might also do a search of recently-published first time authors and research who they had as agents.
